I really hate to cause unnecessary concern to Evanston or anyone else, or throw in the monkey wrench I"m about
to - but, my tick bites DO itch, and sometimes hurt. That's how I know I've been bit again and need to find that little bugger and removed them. And, they are rarely fully engorged - most have very little to no feeding time, so I'm itching or sensing pain pretty much immediately after they attach.
I doubt I'm the only one that feels these things.
Having now lived with chiggers for the last 22 years, their bites have a very distinctive look to them. Here you can see that if you can not scratch them, the will form a small bump filled with fluid (
open that up and you have more itching that you ever thought possible as the air hits it!), and one that has been recently scratched and
opened up (has a slight scab on it).
/goo.gl/HywNhV I've had nearly every available space on my lower legs in scabs from these little buggers, red, raw and oozing or scabbed for the first few years until I figured out how to control them in the yard somewhat.
While I've never had a bulls eye rash from chiggers, I haven't had a bulls eye rash from ticks either.
The itching from a chigger bite far outdoes the bite from a tick or mosquito for me.
So, neither can be ruled out.
