Hello wonderful people, I apologize in advance for the long post but I really need some advice.
I am 26 ( 27 in November) year old woman.
From 2012 till late 2015 I struggled with extreme panic attacks, depersonalization, brain fog and insomnia, was put on antidepressants. Didn't have any physical issues till November 2015 when my dr decided to inject me with progesterone due to PCOS.
This is where my health struggle begins..after that injection I got severely ill with flu like symptoms-sore throat, sinus pain, low grade fever, burning sensation in head,malaise..thinking it was strep throat I was put on antibiotics for a week, that did nothing, changed like 6-7 antibiotics, but I kept getting worse. I started getting joint pain, extreme muscle pain, neuropathic pain in my palms and soles, extreme fatigue, sensitive lymph nodes, then episodes of severe vertigo with non stop headache, stomach issues, stopped digesting food, food intolerances, nausea, my nails stated turning blue when cold, severe shortness of breath with little movement( spirometry and xray normal), heart rate irregularities, you name it. Been to every specialist, hospitalized many times, been tested for autoimmune conditions, had mris, scans and nothing. The only diagnosis I got was 'reactive arthritis'. I was tested for a lot of infectious diseases, including lyme which was negative at the time ( Elisa only)
The low grade fever was on and off every month the first year, then it disappeared. Fast forward to a year later ( December 2016) I got severely ill with what I think was Epstein barr virus ( because I testesd positive for igg 6 months later which was negative the previous year). After that virus I started developing muscle weakness, it stated in my hand grip, then foot drop and very strong muscle twitching.I also have severe heat intolerance and sweating. Had 3 EMGs and was diagnosed with "idiopathic myopathy",no one knew what it was, all they told me it was not neurological, nor autoimmune, nor hormonal. It is not symmetrical ( left side worse than right) and progressive. It does get better some days with physiotherapy but then mu muscles crash again and they never recover fully, I even have very slight atrophy in some places.
So..last week I visited a functional medicine doctor ( may be the 500th doctor) who asked me if I have been tested for lyme? I said yes,of course. He then told me that I have to take another test because it awfully sounds like I am dealing with an infectious disease. So I got tested again with the ELISA method and to my surprise I had positive igm and positive igg. I am very confused here, how can I have both igm and igg positive? Of course, next week I will take the western blot test.
I want to ask you several questions.
- Will antibiotic use affect the results on the western blot that I am about
to have? I am sick with strep throat right now and currently taking Cefuroxime, was taking it 1 month ago as well, because I had strep throat AGAIN. Because my immune system is basically nonexistant right now and I get every bug and every virus and it hits me very very hard.
-Could it been LYME all along for those 2 years? And if so,why my test is just now positive?
- If it was LYME all along, why the antibiotics I was taking in the beginning of my problems weren't helpful at all?
- Will Lyme cause myopathy? And will it start with sore throat?
- Is it true that EBV virus can cause false positive lyme result?
I am very confused and not sure what to do except take the western blot now. OOh...I forgot to say, that in the middle of all that jazz I was stung by a hornet, 2 months before my muscle problmes occured.
I apologise if I made mistakes, english is not my first language. And thank you in advance for taking the time to read all of this.
