The new tincture PHYTOLYMEX, I'm on for Lyme is a combo of mostly Chinese herbs.
Those herbs include:
-Ban Len Gen
-Che Qian Zi
-Chuan Xiong
-Dang shen
-Elecampane (which I know treats babs)
-Huang Jing
-Ju Hua
-Moutan
-Coltsfoot
-Poke Root (helps lymph drainage)
-Ground Ivy Leaves

If anybody knows of these herbs and can explain their role, or if anyone has had experience with them and could provide some input that would help! Been on this for 3 days and feel like I'm herxing already (brutal anxiety, brain fog, burning eyes etc)

Also sorry I have been posting a lot about some different things!

Here is an easier list of ingredients I found --


Isatis (Isatis tinctora), Plantain (Plentago asoatica), Polygonum (Polygonatum sibiricum), Codonopsis (Codonopsitis pilosula), Mu dan pi (Paeonia Suffruticosa), Chuan xiong (Ligusticum chaun xiong), Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium), Coltsfoot (Tussilaginis farfarae), Elecampane (Inula helenium), Poke root (Phytolacca decandra), Ground Ivy (Nepeta hederacea)

I don't take this, so I am guessing this is the one you got.

I could describe the individual actions of these herbs for you, but I don't think that information is going to be that helpful. Did your LLMD prescribe this for you?

She did. And I was looking for more of a broad overview of what they treat..for example; babs, Bart, lyme etc

My acupuncturist, who studied in China, gave me Bu Zhong Yi Qi Pian (QiVive) to take 2x a day for fatigue and lack of physical strength. It includes:

Radix Astragali Membranacei
Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae
Radix Angelicae Sinensis
Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae
Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae
Rhizoma Cimicifugae
Radix Bupleuri Chinensis
Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis
Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis Recens
Fructus Jujubae

I googled yours and found it is a dietary supplement is designed to assist the immune system in the presence of spirochetal, bacterial or rickettsial presence transmitted by tick or other insects." You can try googling each herb it contains and see if something specific is causing your symptoms. If it didn't happen right away, to me that would seem more like a herx than a side effect, and maybe you need to back off a couple of days, do more detox, then slowly get back on. So for example, if the doctor said take 2x a day, start with 1x a day. Interesting - I have not heard of this one. Have you been diagx with ricksettia?

You might want to check out my previous posting where I explain how herbs are prescribed and how formulas are put together in Chinese medicine. I think it will answer your question. Usually when a patient is not doing well on a formula, an acupuncturist can do some tweaking(either add or subtract an herb) to eliminate or reduce a side effect a patient might be having on it. Sometimes you ditch the formula altogether and try something else. However, I also agree with Kat1000 that maybe you should lower the dose and see how you do. That always seems to be a good approach when starting something new.
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is a great and widely prescribed classical chinese formula. I've read or heard somewhere (Buhner's book or blogcast) that Buhner doesn't recommend Astragalus for treating chronic Lyme. I'm not really sure why, perhaps another member has more insight on this.
