Do you recommend this DR? Dr. J in DC or one in CT..?

This would be an 8 hour commute. I'm asking your opinions(if you are familiar with him) I'm talking about Dr. J in DC. Worth the travel or no?

You might attract more responses if members see that in the topic heading.

DS has gone there for almost 2 years and has improved greatly so I recommend it. Do you have specific questions? We can try and answer them. Also if you do a search for Dr. J in DC here, you will find lots of detailed information on what it is like as well.

We live nearby but I do think it would be worth the commute because the visits are infrequent and you can switch to Skype after the first several. Basically you have a several hour intake appt, then return 6 weeks later for a followup appt which is at least an hour or 1.5. After that it's every 2-4 months depending on how you are doing and how far along you are. The first year it was 2-3 months and this year it's 3-4 months for DS.

Yancync- I was recently diagnosed. Symptoms started end of June. I'm seeing a ND but not very happy with them as I feel they rely too much on labs.

A DR in CT would be even better but I want a DR that someone has seen/knows is very good. smile

in the search bar type: 'Dr. J DC lyme' and see some posts about it. i see him but most just see his NP or PA. he's got the pedigree that's for sure but my 8 months of being on a babesia protocol and not having any of my symptoms resolved is making me wonder what the heck he's doing.

their philosophy is you have to clear babesia before you can make progress on other pathogens (in my case my symptoms are not being caused by babesia but something else). they manage symptoms while you try and clear it.

the one benefit of going to Dr. J is you won't run out of things to try for a long while as he's seen many people and tried lots of things.

Interesting. I'm not sure I like that protocol. Like..what if you don't even have babesia symptoms? You could be treating something you don't even have. Did you test for cos at all? With all the technology...how frustrating we don't have reliable testing. :/

i neglected to mention i was positive for lyme and babesia duncani. Dr. J treats by clinical symptoms but his practice assumes you have all 3 B's (Borrelia, Bart, Babs) and most seem to. He checks if you've cleared babesia by feeling your liver and spleen if they're inflamed he keeps treating until they aren't.

So even if I didn't have positive lab work he would've felt my liver and spleen and determined I had it even without symptoms.

The frustrating thing is I've made no progress on my nerve issues doing this protocol for 8 months which tells me its not babs that's causing the issues I'm fairly sure its a gram negative pathogen in the Bartonella/Brucella family (they call it BLO or bartonella like organism).

They can only test for a small # of potential pathogens/strains so its best to go by symptoms and the drugs/herbs themselves are broad spectrum killers so.

is Dr. J (last name rhymes with caller) in Rockville, MD? I see him and he certainly made a HUGE difference in my healing! If this is the one you're referring to, I'm more than happy to chime in and give you my opinion of him and his office.....

and something to think about: I live in MD so I'm close to some of these cities where these LLD are, and I mentioned to my wife the idea about opening up our guest room to any fellow Lymies that are travelling distances to this area for treatment. I know I've been very lucky to have Dr. J about 30 minutes away and how some people aren't as fortunate to have a LLD in their home, and I've read stories of how people will travel great distances just to receive care. If we can help cut down some of that travel time, whether someone needs a place to stay for a day or a weekend, we're more than happy to open up our home and help. I'd hate for anyone to not get the treatment they need and deserve simply because it's too far to drive or they just can't physically do it themselves. If this sounds like it could be helpful to anyone travelling to the DC/MD area, and you need a place to stay, please send me a message

and Girlie I've been thinking about this idea for a few years now and I'm surprised someone hasn't already jumped on it and made a website where we can go to find a house nearby to stay in for a day or two while we're seeking treatment. I'm not doing it for the money, and I certainly wouldn't want to profit off of someone else's misery, but we've rented out our spare bedroom to other guests before (mostly visiting scientists that worked at the USDA with my wife) where we did charge a small rent (to help with meals, etc.) but my idea of a "Lyme House" is strictly to help out other fellow Lymies find a place to stay during their travels seeking treatment. I have a friend in PA who has to drive over 6 hours (one way) to get treatment and he tells me how tired and worn out he is and sometimes he's in such bad shape that he's afraid to drive alone, or when he is alone, he pulls over just to calm down or take a nap. That made me think about opening up our house to others that are in a similar situation, and if we can give a day or two of rest and peace of mind, then I'm all for it. My wife would only charge a small fee just to cover food and gas if we were to transport someone to the doctor's office or airport, etc., but in no way would we expect anyone to pay a hotel room rate or something outrageous like that

How wonderful @Ace. My husband drove me for a full year to my monthly appointments with Dr. C in Mt Kisco NY (6 hour round trip). I was lucky to have grown up near there and when I started making the drive could usually stay overnight. Very helpful with the extreme fatigue, migraines etc.

For the several years (4) I still have the 6 hour round trip drive but now to Dr. S in NJ. Sometimes I have a place to stay there, sometimes not.

Your offer is so kind, we kind of need a Ronald McDonald house or something like that- Airbnb for tick disease patients smile
