Is shortness of breath when talking air hunger? Or is this not what air hunger means? I asked this on another site but didn't really get a response.

Hello - I had been experiencing shortness of breath during most activities. As my illness progressed, yes - even talking caused me to be short of breath. My LLMD and his staff have described "air hunger" as being short of breath or not feeling like you can completely fill your lungs, even when you take a big deep breath. I have never heard the term "air hunger" to be limited to only when you are talking.

Yes, that helps, thanks. I have experienced this mostly when talking, at least that's when it's most noticeable, but I wasn't sure if that was actually 'air hunger' or if I should be worried I have something else wrong that isn't lyme related.

I found that my air hunger was directly related to my gut. As my gut improved, so did the air hunger. It also seems to happen when I'm herxing, but it's not as bad. I had SIBO and a bad case of candida - both of which seem to be better under control. My theory is that the inflammation causes pressure on the lungs or diaphragm. Could also be gas. You can have gas and not know it. Just my theory, but air hunger seemed to subside when I took a supplement called Gas Stop - you can find it online or at most health food stores.

Hmm I don't really have shortness of breath or gasping for air. However, I do find that I breath shallow and sometime feel like I "forget" to breath. So weird. I do find that I sigh very frequently. Sounds like I am pissed off when I really am not. Will have to try the Gas Stop and what that does.

Have you discussed the possibility of Babesia with your LLMD? I had strange breathing issues -- waking in the night, gasping for breath (almost like the way you feel when you jump into really cold water), and running out of breath as I am speaking normally. All of these issues have disappeared since I treated Babesia for 6 months with Mepron/Zith.

I had air hunger which felt like a little bit short of breath with Babesia. It didn't happen a lot but it was noticeable to me when it did.

Air hunger is one of my top 10 worst symptoms. During my worse times I was unable to get a breath in, especially when I was doing any type of activity like walking a few feet. It now occurs when herxing but not as intense. Other times my breathing is shallow and faster than normal. Deep breathing exercises helps a bit.

Babesia can cause severe air hunger episodes.

Herxes can cause mild air hunger, grasping for air.

BUT once it was MASSIVE for me: pure herxes, my legs stopped obeying my brain, I could not walk, and slowly, but whole body got paralyzed and I felt I was going to suffocate.

It was just a herx.

Later, I read that herxes may kill. One species of Borrelia cause so severe herxes in patients that there are actually records of death due to herxes.

Guess their symptoms? They can't breathe, oxygen does not come in, they may die from some lung complication.

I herxed so badly with andrographis and other Buhner's herbs, when I tried to push a lot of them at once (you know, the mistake all beginners do...).

After that scare, never more.

So air hunger for me was babesia, also herxes.

Guess what? When I go in a place that is FULLY charged with electrosmog, now that I do not have lyme anymore, I can get part of that feeling 'grasping for air'.

It happened many times, but only in massive amounts of electrosmog.

I'll get that and often headaches.
the moment I leave the dirty-electr place, it still takes some time to get better, but both headaches and air hunger disappear.
