Kaitlan- Agreed, yes there are many chronic illnesses.
But the fact cant be ignored that in the further past, people died a lot probably with the many of the same mysterious illnesses (labels) of today, but the labels were not "invented" yet.
The "label" back then was "natural causes", same meaning, different times. Lyme traces were even found in the frozen iceman (forget his name) from thousands of years ago.
These "illness labels" are fairly new in modern history, probably to give a name for lifelong drug treatment - and the average person falls for it. They have a "label" for everything now supposedly, incurable. Its profitable.
As far as real diseases- they can take a long time to get named. Hakaru Hashimoto of the medical school at Kyushu University first described the symptoms of persons with struma lymphomatosa, an intense infiltration of lymphocytes within the thyroid, in 1912. It was recognized as the first organ specific autoimmune disease in 1959,......... that took a long time.
Modern fast food, no doubt makes the modernized population unhealthy. There is no excuse for it now, but some just dont care. Those who want to explore the extreme opposite, "clean eating" do gain health benefits, its a fact. Speaking of "poison food", you can still spot lead sealed food cans in old campfire sites of the Colorado Rockies. Remote mountain campfire sites get used over and over through out the years. Many trappers, loggers, miners died of lead poisoning back then. The term "Madhatter" came from nuero damaging effects of the chemical treatment process hat makers used in making beaver pelt "top hats" of the late 1800's.
Humans keep on sacrificing later health/life for instantaneous gratification. We never learn. What will cell phone waves do to us in 40 years use? We will know then.
