Was diagnosed with Lyme in 2011. Have had muscle weakness in arms and shoulders for some time but it has gotten progressively worse. Can't hold hair dryer above head to dry hair. Have trouble folding laundry, putting on mascara, etc. Recently have noticed some issues with chewing and swallowing where muscles in jaw and throat feel "tired". Went to my rheumatologist today (lyme literate) and mentioned those issues to him. 12 vials of blood and testing for polymyositis and myasthenia gravis along with a number of other autoimmune and nuromuscular issues. He did say it could be from Lyme but wants to cover all bases. Anyone else have same or similar?

I'm experiencing the samething. Not quite to your extent though.

Even the chewing thing I experience.

We both have lyme, so not a coincidence. HOWEVER, I do believe lyme can cause other "conditions" but the root cause is lyme.

I have this too. My muscles are pretty much gone as well. sad

My was diagnosed with ALS in July he has muscle weakness , muscle wasting and slurred speech.he recently took Igenex Lyme test it was positive for Lyme disease. His neurologist believes it's ALS he said if he takes antibiotics he become weaker , I trying to get him to go to LLMD because He's afraid to take the antibiotics .

Decarte- no..I have like zero energy. 6 weeks ago I was fit and hiking 10 miles. In a matter of 3-4 weeks my muscles are gone and I've lost 6lbs despite eating normally.

Same here... heavy, weak and sore arms. Driving is sometimes a chore. It has gone away recently but starting to flare back after restarting my 2 week pulse protocol last week after a 4 week off trial period.

Thigh muscles are same only when climbing stairs. Flat ground walking seems OK.

Has anyone been diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, a sporadic muscle wasting disease and found that Lyme Disease was the actual cause. I have had IBM for 10 years and lost most muscle in my triceps, quadriceps and tibialis?

Hi DWhitney - welcome to our community.

While I was not diagnosed with the IBM - I did have muscle wasting and weakness that was rapid onset in my case.

What was the test to diagnose it? muscle biopsy?
Or do they measure inflammation.

I'm not sure my Dr. would have even tested me for that...as I had many other symptoms going on.

Do you have other symptoms, too?

Have you had lyme testing done?

My IBM was diagnosed with a muscle biopsy and was very slow in progressing (years) I was diagnosed in 2007 and am still walking. I do not remember being tested for Lymes Disease but will have attest done.

Make sure you test with a lab that specializes in Tickborne disease testing.

Igenex is one of the best labs (in California) You can call them and they'll send you a test kit. Then get a Dr. - any Dr. including a Chiropractor...or a ND... to sign the lab req .

The best bang for your buck is the Lyme WB IgM and IgG for $250.


They have a couple new tests that look promising: Lyme Immunoblot IgM and IgG and the the Lyme IGX Spot.
I can't remember prices for the new ones...but they do cost more.

BTW - do you have any other symptoms besides the muscle weakness/atropy? Any fatigue...brain issues (memory/cognition), have you ever found a tick on you? anything unexplainable - muscle twitches....etc.

You get the blood draw done early in the week...and Fedex to Igenex. The results are generally in 3 weeks time.
