I read this morning about increasing estrogen removal by increasing fiber intake. Studies show that vegetarians excrete about 3 times more estrogen in their stools compared to omnivores. This is why omnivores have a 50% increase in blood estrogen levels compared to women on a plant based diet. Bacteria in the GI tract of both males and females can create estrogens. A plant based diet reduces those bacteria and helps with estrogen elimination.
Maybe I have too much bacteria in my gut from lifelong constipation and slow gut motility.
If gut dysbiosis is the root problem for us, why can't we just take some abx to kill ALL the bacteria and then start over by eating fermented food and taking probiotics to get the flora corrected? I know it doesn't work that way, but why not?You can't kill all of the bacteria. Antibiotics can only kill certain ones. Bacterial diversity of the GI tract is the key and when you take a lot of antibiotics, the bacteria that don't get killed increase in number and that can cause issues.
Fermented foods usually are high in gram positive bacteria. That is what many of us are deficient of but if other bacteria are already present on the ville in the lumen of the intestines, where are the gram positive bacteria going to live? They often can't just root the other bacteria out of the way so they can live there. The other bacteria present are often in too high of numbers and need to be reduced. What kind of bacteria are those? It varies per individual, but they are often gram negative anaerobes. What do gram negative anaerobes use for energy............nitrates, sulfates, iron, manganese, etc, and even heavy metals like lead and mercury. So here lies a problem. If you give them foods rich in nitrogen, sulfur, and iron, they can grow and thrive. If you keep these foods away from them, they will start dying. Them dying is what we need so the gram positive bacteria can have a place to flourish. But when they die, they release their contents and their toxins. Their contents can be metals and the immune response to this is often too great for many people. They feel too bad and get worse.
So we need some of these gram negative anaerobes but not too many. There is no easy way to do it. Ever heard of fecal transplants? They can be very beneficial.
