I posted earlier this week about my burning red ears and numbness in my face, legs, arms. The numbness is definitely a new symptom for me. I'm wondering since I'm getting new symptoms, does this mean I'm not getting better. This relapse has certainly been one of the worst for me with dizziness and neuro symptoms, but with this onset of new symptoms I'm worried that it means I'm not recovering, despite treating.

The numbness seems to migrate, but sometimes it's in my left hand, foot and left side of my face, lips, all at the same time. Like stroke symptoms without a stroke. I can feel these areas when I touch them, they just feel numb, so maybe not true numbness.

It's so scary and frustrating because it makes me feel like I'm going backward instead of getting better.

Does not sound fun.

Did you increase your doses?

Did you increase your detox?

I wouldn't necessarily assume you're not getting better - herxing can evolve throughout your entire treatment. Our bodies are hanging every minute of the day, the infection is dynamic and our treatment is impacting everything every day. So things will change, your sx will evolve.

But you don't want to have severe herxing going on for too long - that can be very stressful on the body. That usually indicates you need to reduce the intensity of your treatment and/or increase detoxing.

You might still be in the herxing phase - it's often difficult to tell for sure until you can get a few months behind you.

I haven't increased my doses, and I haven't really increased my detoxing, either. I take several detox baths per week and have an Infrared sauna that I use about 3 times per week. The sauna usually helps, but not this week.

It's just so strange these numb sensations in all different areas of the body. Feels like novicane.

I have the same roving numbness. I've had burning ears before but I seem to get burning feet probably more. I will go stretches where it seems a bit better. And I too often describe the sensation as dental novocaine wearing off. It feels even worse if I get cold - putting my hands in the fridge or in cold water bothers me when it is flaring up.

What are you treating with? b12 deficiency can sometimes cause numbness.

I also had a lot of night numbness initially. This has gotten a little better. Herbs seem to help me more than antibiotics. Right now I'm back to Green Dragon Core protocol (jap knotweed, cats claw, andrographis) and doing a bit better.

I just wanted to add that I also fell 2 weeks ago and I'm not sure if that can be contributed to this numbness or not. It's largely left sided, in addition to my lips and mouth. I used my left hand to break my fall, twisted my right ankle and badly scraped both knees.

I just can't think of what else could leave my lips, tongue, hand and leg/feet numb.

I'm treating with the Zhang protocol, which is heavy on garlic. I call down a little bit on them since these symptoms came on to see if that would help, but so far it's made no difference.

I'm not sure of my B 12 level but I could definitely try supplementing with some.

Numbness was one of my major symptoms in the beginning, however I had it begin in the side of my face the head/neck but migrate to both sides of my body .

These infections certainly can cause numbness and mimic MS symptoms.

But if you are experiencing ONLY one side of numbness, and since you recently had a fall I would consider getting checked out.

I'm no medical expert but even though we have these infections its important to realize that at times something else possibly could be going on. Lets hope not, but its nice to rule things out.

Are you familiar with the signs of stroke?

Slurred speech, droopy smile/or when raising your eyebrows they are not the same(one droops).

If you hold out your arms straight, does one arm drift downwards(its best to have another person check this one while you close your eyes and the hold arms out straight in front of you).

Is your memory ok, you know your birth date , what day and year it is, who the president is etc.


My numbness was all over, but would come and go and change spots too. The bacteria can eat away the myelin sheaths and you can have symptoms similar to Ms or stroke like.

Many get bells palsy also.

During my treatment I had new symptoms appear and even some that went away for some time would reappear especially when herxing or changing a protocol/or medication.

Buhner has good suggestions for herbals that heal this damage, Red sage and Baikal skullcap.

My memory is ok, I can recite my birthdate, my name, address, and who the president is, etc. my speech isn't slurred, and I can hold both arms out in front of me and raise them no problem.

The stroke was my first concern, but since it's been going on for days now, I feel like it would've gotten worse or I would have developed more symptoms of a stroke.

I really weird part of this comment is the inside of my nose even feels numb. I can still smell things ok, but it feels just like when you get Novacaine at the dentist, except I haven't been to the dentist and haven't had novacaine. I didn't have the symptoms right after the fall, so I don't know why they would pop up now, I don't know if I hit a nerve, I know my neck has been hurting me lately but I don't know if the neck affects the leg hand, mouth and nose.

YES to the nose! My gums even felt numb.

Your neck/upper spine can affect many other parts of your body.

Do you have an LLMD ir neurologist? I would ask them about this for sure. You may have jarred something in your neck and the more it compresses the more your symptoms are flaring.

I'm no doctor, but there may be a correlation between your fall, the neck pain, and your numbing.

It's also worse when lying down, not sure if that means anything toward a pinched nerve or something.

Good point Hoagie.

When my symptoms all came on my head/face would go numb when I was sleeping. I have a zillion pillows on my bed and do think the angle my neck was at played a role in it. However, I did not have it in all the years prior with those pillows. I think it became an issue once the inflammation from infections came into play.

I also seem to be chemically sensitive to our memory foam mattress and it will also exacerbate my nervous system. So yes, Disney Love, I think it's very possible that you could have something out of whack. Hopefully it will be a simple fix and you can get some relief from these symptoms!

You asked if my numbness got better. It did get better but it took some time with treatment.

The most intense numbness went away after maybe 3 to 4 months months of abx but I still did have mild numbness return in head, face throat if I was herxing and if I had an increase in stress.

I'm now in my 13 month of treatment and I haven't had any numbness for over 2 months now.

Hi all, just wanted to update that the numbness resolved after taking my multivitamin (MegaFood One Daily Iron Free). I had stopped taking it this past month because I feel it contributes to my vertigo. Sadly, after taking it my vertigo is back but my numbness is gone. So frustrating.


I may need to make a separate post asking for Multivitamin recommendations because for some reason, when I take this one every day, my vertigo intensifies. The past month without it was great, not much vertigo at all, but then I guess I can't be without it or risk numbness.

That's what I'm thinking, that the B vitamins in my Multi helped normalize whatever was lacking. Just wish this particular one didn't make me so dizzy.

I had a lot of numbness before I was diagnosed. Sometimes it was mostly one side, also on my face, but other times it was roving. Once i started antibiotics it went away rather quickly. I've had a couple times where I've woken up with a numb hand, which used to happen all the time before my diagnosis, but it is very infrequent.
