Can facial itching without a rash be a presenting symptom of early LD?

I'm not sure...what is your history?

Did you have a known tick bite?

If all you have is facial itching..why do you suspect lyme disease?

Bitten by something R shoulder blade area on 6/24 -? Deer fly - began facial itching 7/2; Dr Rx’d steripred dosepack for 1 week; no help with itch. 3 weeks later a doctor friend noted a flat, blanching, fading red rash, oval shaped in area of bite measuring 4x10 cms. 1 month later Systemic symptoms of fever, total body itching, red rash, muscle and joint aches, no appetite for 5 days. Doxicycline and steroids Rx’d. Better for a few days then return of same symtoms. Body, hand<feet skin peeling off all except face. Biopsies for lymphoma and leukemia neg. rheumatologists nix still’s disease and lupus. Mention of Dress syndrome. Elisa and western blots neg for Bb. Fatiquedall the time. New skin coming in red and leathery, tight. Any thoughts

Well that could have been an EM (oval rash) from Lyme.

And your symptoms also could be attributed to lyme.

BUT - if it is - the steroids are not good to take.

What lab were the tests done at?

If not done at Igenex, I suggest you consider testing the Lyme WB IgM and IgG for $210 and see what it shows.

Facial-I would see a biological dds and look for infection or bad root canal

Both tests (ElisaAndWestern blots) done by Lab Corps at 4 and 10 weeks from bite that produced the EM rash. Agree, heavy dose steroids were a bad choice early on and probably altered the natural progression and detection and severity of LD. DSS said teeth and sinuses fine. Eye doc no sjogrens. Will test for Lyme IgG, IgM with IGenex. Thanks Girlie..... Now going into 5th month, fatigue major.

Oh right - you took steroids and then tested.
...and of course you tested negative - your immune system was suppressed from the steroids.

Or...do you want to test first...do you have a Dr. who will sign off on the Igenex lab req?

I am not sure what a biological dds is but went to see dentist who ruled out tooth, gum and sinus problems

You've already gotten good advice, but just thought it was worth my adding in that I've had ALOT of skin issues with Lyme & co, including the peeling skin thing. And the way the new skin came in was the same for me also.

It took me 3 rounds with eaither erythromycin or azithromyacin (not sure if I spelled those right) to figure out the skin peeling for me was part of a major allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Or maybe a combination of the antibiotics & untreated Lyme

Each time it happened the reaction was worse & I felt sicker & sicker , I didn't know I had Lyme at the time, but it just seemed like my body never regained its previous ( less sick) condition completely after each allergic reaction.

Of course, 2 of those times when the rashes began I was given steroids also.

I've had plenty of skin related stuff, including some skin peeling on smaller areas of body without the antibiotics & steroids, but not the full body peeling.

I don't know if an allergic reaction to doxycycline can cause that as well, but it might be worth looking into.

Hope you get the treatment you need & get rid of the skin issues ( and the Lyme ) soon!

Welcome and sorry you are going through all of this. Itching can be Lyme and/or co infections. Bartonella causes many skin symptoms.

If you get a chance look over our"New to Lyme"start here thread at the top of the page.

It has loads of good useful and important inflammation about Lyme, detoxing, treatment, symptoms and more.

Hang in there and hope you are able to find a good llmd and get proper treatment.

There is hope to get better with treatment.

A biological dentist is one that treats holistically. They take more 'care' (generally) than a regular dentist when it comes to replacing fillings, etc. (so there is minimal mercury exposure) and they are generally against root canals.

That's simplifying it...but just to give you an idea.

I know that people who have ‘mono’ (= Ebstein-Barr virus) develop
a rash if put on Ampicillin (A Penicillin) even if they are not allergic
to penicillin. So there is some peculiarity between E-B virus and
Penicillin/Ampicillin that sensitizes the skin. I wonder if a similar
peculiarity between the Lyme spirochete and antibiotics or if the skin eruption (rash and peeling) is a severe Herxheimer reaction vs a DRESS or TEN reaction.
