Anyone have experience with rifampin?

Hey all I'm on my 2nd month on rifampin I've been treating for 6 months total. I've herxed pretty good on other combos but this rifampin has me herxing non stop. I can barely walk which I expected but it's been on going for 12 days now. Can you please give me your experience although i know mine may not be the same. Im hoping this will ease some soon. Ive never herxed this long so intensely. I've been trying to stay positive and have been doing pretty good with that. But it's hard when your in excruciating pain for so long with no break. Im detoxing and it doesn't seem to be easing it much. Im glad its working but about how long into rifampin did your herxing ease a little. Thanks in advance you are all so caring and helpful here!

Honestly, the rifampin absolutely messed up my liver so much. So not worth being on antibiotics if you ask me.

Hey my llmd has checked my liver levels and they have been fine thus far. I will stop if it starts messing with my liver for sure. I was nervous to take it so far. Im on omnicef with it for right now. I've just never herxed this bad for so long. I'll call my llmd on Monday if doesn't subside and see what he thinks about skipping a day or so. Thanks for the advice guys! Is there anyone who has herxed for this long?

i was on rifampin and rifabutin for almost 6 months and no liver issues. i take thorne's liver cleanse as a supplement to help keep it healthy.

if you are taking the rifampin every day then yes you can very well be experiencing a non-stop herx reaction due to bug die off. you should be pulsing this to get this under control you aren't supposed to 'plow through' feeling like garbage non-stop else your body can't get the inflammation down and healing properly. maybe you want to talk to your LLMD about maybe doing it 4 consecutive days per week? the notion of doing abx every day is falling out of favor for pulsing.

One thing I did to help make it through was bump up the dose very slowly over a couple of weeks. My doctor told me pulsing with rifampin isn't good so she recommended I increase very slowly to try to make the herxing somewhat manageable. The other thing you can do it take it with food for a while as you are trying to get through the herx. When you take it with food, less medicine is absorbed so that's another way to try to mitigate the herxing. I had to do both because otherwise I literally felt like I was dying. I told my husband that on multiple occasions as I was trying to get up to the full dose. It sucks. No other way to say it.

And since dealing with this Lyme/co infection nightmare, I have a new motto that I literally tell myself ten times a day. And that is: you can't go around it. You can only go through it.
