Hi Balula71 -
Well, you've been kinda charmed so far. I mean, it's really not good that you were bitten. However,
a) you realized it
b) you could describe it
c) you got yourself to an MD pretty quickly
d) you have a positive test...
So - you're WAAAAY ahead of the game, if you're unfortunate to be in the game.
But here's the bad news -
Often, when you first start treating you're gonna feel a lot worse before you start feeling better.
- Not only is the infection traveling through your body,
- But the Borrelia burgdorferi or Bb Lyme microbe has the ability to evade and disable the body's immune response so it takes longer to treat it
- And also, treatment can be tough on the body as well. And you can't force your body to manage the infection faster, heal faster--that is guaranteed to backfire.
So, you might consider taking some vacation days coming up here if you can. If not, you need to power down as much and as often as you can. You're driving a machine. Your body won't function like a machine when it's trying to fight off these infections.
Often, when you're implementing an antimicrobial treatment the die off of the microbe can cause a sepsis-like condition where it can take awhile for the body to process the dead debris and endotoxins OUT of the body. This is the reason it's recommended that you also support the natural process of detoxing (which can get bogged down with Lyme & co infections).
There is a lot of info on detoxing online - but you want to try to cover the GI mainly with a GI binder - this will help drag out toxins (since you're taking the abx orally, your gut gets hit first and the abx can also cause imbalance in the GI microbiome, which can lead to imbalance and the binder helps remove stuff from this, too).
OTC products: activated charcoal, bentonite clay, psyllium husk, modified citrus pectin. ALWAYS drink a lot of water before, during and after taking a binder, take it after you the abx if you can each day, and keep a 2 hr buffer between the binder and ANYTHING else you eat/drink/pop into your mouth (beforeand after).
People use their skin to detox, too (it's the largest organ we have) - either through sweating (sauna - not exercise unless you don't have any fatigue), and detox soaks - lots of good recipes online for that.
And taking abx is hard on the liver - support it with milk thistle seed and/or burdock root.
Additional ways to detox Nutramedix Pinella and Burbur tinctures, alkalining with Alka seltzer gold and you can find even more detoxing info online.
The immune system can often create a lot of inflammation, which can trigger its own set of sx - try reducing inflammation with turmeric, or japanese knotweed (but start with very low doses, titrate up slowly).
Now, some more bad news:
Most of the time, ticks are carrying more than just Lyme disease so you need to keep an eye out for other coinfections. And the sx from each infection overlap and it can be tough to understand what is causing what. One thing that helps people do this is to fill out a sx list - and that can sometimes help you determine if there are more infections going on and what they might be.
