Loss of taste - is this a Lyme symptom?

For the last week, everything tastes like wet sawdust to me. (Ruined my Thanksgiving dinner, the food part, anyway.) I have this horrid salty taste in the back of my mouth and can’t taste sugar at all.

I’ve been having a lot of congestion lately, so maybe it’s a sinus infection, which I’m prone to. But I’ve also had lots of numbness, tingling and twitching in the face lately so maybe it’s not just a sinus thing? Have any of you lost your taste and attributed it to Lyme and/or coinfections?

I did have two months of metal taste in my mouth a year ago

Yes I had loss of taste and with treatment it has returned but not quite the same as before.

Goshawk I hope your taste sense is fully restored. Not tasting food fully is a real bummer. Redlabel how long did the metallic taste last? Mine is more salty if I have to describe it.

I hope this is a sinus infection. I’m taking azithromycin for it. I stopped my herbal treatment a couple weeks ago to allow my leaky gut to heal and am feeling symptoms returning so I hope this is not something new. Thankfully my gut is much improved so I’m starting back on the Buhner herbs too. Hopefully one or the other will help.

Loss/ change of taste can be Lyme, the antibiotics you take for Lyme, the congestion caused by Lyme, and loss of appetite because... Lyme.

So yeah, it’s happens to me on occasion for one of those reasons, but it all comes back to.... Lyme.

Yeah, I've got this to some extent also. It was worse at one point, but now I'd say my sense of taste is about 25% returned.

But for now I kinda count it as a bonus that I'm tasting less than I used to, b/c I have to take so many things that people say are SO hard to get down.

To me they just have a taste range from absolutely nothing- mild .

As for not tasting anything good... oh well. It probably makes sticking to my diet easier. Haha.

Casa11, yep, I’m thinking the silver lining is that I’m losing weight. I need to take about 15-20 lbs. off. But I sure hope this goes away eventually because I love food and cooking. Hope we all get our taste back soon.
