What to expect after first ABX round? and CB57 questions

I did my first round of antibiotics for lyme treatment. The docs main criteria for the lyme diagnosis was my CD57 being low. Pre abx CD8-/CD57+ Lymphs was 1.2 Abs.CD8-CD57+ Lymphs was 16 and after 30 days doxycycline (in additional to many other supplements and detox methods) the levels are now 2.9 and 29. As of today I have been off the abx for 21 days but I really dont feel any different. The doc seemed to think that by now if they had done anything I should be feeling slightly different or better. I understand many take the antibiotics and do not have any change but for those that do how long does it typically take. Also can CD57 levels be low for anything other than lyme?

Hi, joeNova,

If you are still having symptoms you need to be treating.

One month is not enough , you keep treating until there are no symptoms for at least two months.

Are you seeing an Lyme literate MD(LLMD)?

Did Md explain about possibility of co infections and their symptoms?

Joe - this isn't an acute infection,right? You've had symptoms for several months to years?

Chronic lyme isn't fully treated in a month or two...it takes time.

CD57 can't be relied on to determine when to stop treatment. Some LLMD's will have it as one of their 'tools' but not on it's own.
More importantly - as goshawk stated - symptom resolution is what you are aiming for...and then treat for several more weeks after.

Yes doc explained co infection possibilities. I have had symptoms for years and I understand that it will take time. So Im trying to gauge the docs competency it does not seem realistic to me that I would take one round of abx and feel better but she seemed to think it should have changed how I feel.

I agree one round of abx probably isn't enough for a chronic infection.

Yes, I believe other chronic conditions can also affect (lower) the CD57.

Joe-

I made a new post on cd57and T and B cells they are all parts of the immune cells. Hopefully the lyme community and others will benefit from knowing the answer to this some day. Its an ongoing question. Read my post- no answeres, but it "states" where we are at with it.
