Hi everyone i started flagyl 250 mgs two doses and thought i wanted to die the depression was offensive really did not want to live that was monday and tuesday night so i skipped wednesday and i got the flu starting last night from my boyfriend so i am sick in bed today my llmd wants to break them in half 150 mgs but honesteley i do not want to take them...ativan.has been getting me through the day last night i slept for the first time with help of ativan and stopping flagyl ....i feel like i can not get through treatment because of how bad the depression is i really think i need to go back on buproprion sr low dose 100 mgs i was on it last year and it did help should i start back up on it so i can fight this illness a little better i will be taking buproprion sr 100 mgs and ativan ....then maybe i can tolerate the antibiotics betterbecause every antibiotic i take i get severely depressed and can not sleep or handle anything....still hsve babesia and am thinking if my depression is a little better i can fight this illness better may want to.just take bactrim and artesimin and herbs though because antibiotics are just destroying my gut anymore right now meaning today i stopped all antibiotics monday should i just take bactrim i heard i can stop the babesia from growing ....really need some advice just feel so depressed anymore i do not even hsve the energy to christmas shop this year i am feeling so hopeless...

Scooterbug - so sorry you're having such a rough time.

If I were you, I would continue with the bactrim if you're tolerating that well.
And, just do 250 mgs of flagyl once a week....and see how that goes.

How long after taking it, did you go back to baseline?

After a few weeks, then maybe you can do that dose twice a week.


My LLND had me only take the Tinidazole twice a week (it's used for the same reason Flagyl is)

I know THE Dr. J. also has his patients take Flagyl just two days a week.

Maybe you will be able to tolerate it...if you just do it once a week for a few weeks?

If you need an antidepressant for awhile to get you through the rough time...then don't feel bad about it..it's temporary...and you can wean off later.

Hi girlie i took my last dose of flagyl tues night at around 8:00 at night and was in sucidal depression all day wed yesyerday ...feeling better today but sick w the flue .....question girlie my llmd wants be on this everyday and to go up to 250 mgs three times a day is he insane......i.only took 250 mgs and thought i wanted to die 2 doses though monday and tuesay....should i break them in half 150 mgs and only do once a week for now my dr did say to break them but to do that every day thier is no way ....once a week to start you think at 150mgs and then 150 mgs the next week ....

scooter bug - is your LLMD saying to do this - even after you said what happened?

half would be 125 mg. But, yes, since the full amount isn't an option.
You can't have suicidal depression for two days...
That's not an option...so cut it in half...yes.

I'm wondering if you should ask him to try the Tinidazole - it's same class, and used for cyst busting as well.
Maybe you can tolerate that one instead.
Are you able to call him...and just say that you've been reading about Tinidazole...and it's also used for cyst busting.


Question: Are you detoxing? Are you taking a binder?

Hey Scooterbuglyme, sorry you're feeling so bad! I don't have any specific advice for you reguarding the flagyl or other alternatives, but I can definitely relate to feeling that the the antibiotics cause unbearable symptoms that make treatment difficult-impossible!

I tend to get really bad anxiety ( as well as increased physical/ neuro symptoms) with antibiotics, and it's been a major issue as far as treatment goes. I also have the anxiety with herbal treatment, but to a much lesser extent.

I had to stop the doxycycline due to anxiety, and only recently begun again after being prescribed Ativan. Honestly, it doesn't really help that much , but I suppose it's better than nothing.

Did I misunderstand, or are you still taking Bactrim? Does that also increase your depression?

I don't have the knowledge or experience to offer much in the way of advice, but I'm sure others will be along soon.

The only thing I can think of is that you mentioned that the antibiotics are destroying your gut & I believe gut issues can contribute to depression. I wonder if taking some time to heal your gut might be beneficial ?

If the bupropion helped you before & didn't cause any problems, then I would ask the doc if you can try it again. Hope you find something that helps. Hang in there- you're not alone!

Ps. I totally understand the Christmas thing... ugh!

Yes the drs here are terrible but he gives me the ativan and i really need it right nowits the only thing getti g me through tried a couple other drs and they all sucked or do not even call you back ...i did take an epson salt bath last night meditated stretched a little and took 1and a half mg of ativan to help me sleep i do have activated charcoal and apple pectin...

Thankyou casa yes not sure if i want to take the bactrim either my gut feels a litter better today...girlie i could ask about tindazole i do not think my insurance wants to cover it though...i think he tried to prescribe that one for me before and they refused to pay

I would wait and see if you're able to tolerate another dose on Monday.

Maybe make Wednesday your Flagyl day. If you can tolerate the one time dosing of 125 mg on wednesday -

Then maybe the next Wednesday try 250 mg. Do that for a few weeks, then try 250 mg twice daily (once a week)

Just take it slow.

But, I'm planning a trip to DC to see him...getting close to making the appt and booking flights.
