Getting a Cold for the First Time in Years

I have been treating babs with mepron and Zithromax for 5 weeks now.. Yesterday I had a terrible sore throat and just assumed it was a herx, dry air, or allergies. Today (of course on Christmas Eve with family) I woke up and felt terrible. Tonight is worse. I feel very sick. But, it is not really Lyme herx sick it feels more like a cold.

I still have a sore throat and runny nose with mucus in my throat. I feel very rundown, dizzy (which could be babs) and just weak and flulike.

Is this bad? Getting a virus while having Lyme disease? Anything I should do?

Or, is this a good sign? A sign that my immune system is doing well enough to fight these viruses? I ask because this is the first time being "real" sick since getting Lyme a couple years ago.

Just feeling down because I had to miss Christmas Eve church service and wish I could be better and hoping this isn't just Lyme sx flaring. I sick of being sick..

I'm in the same boat. I got some sort of cold over two weeks, shortly after adding Bidens pilosa for babs and c. Pneumonia. My parents got it first so I knew it wasn't a herd. It wasn't too bad except for a productive cough I couldn't get rid of. Then last night right before bed, I started feeling like I was getting sick all over again with something worse - this time with stuffy nose and that miserable inflamed feeling in my nose and throat. Felt slightly feverish and achy, too.

All day I toyed with whether or not to go to a clinic to see if they could test me for the flu. I ended up not going. I've just been worried that I need a Rx, but I couldn't tolerate minocycline. I'm pretty sure any abx would make me herx. Scary place to be.

I'm taking so many herbs and supplements already there's not much more I could do except increase doses which will give me a herx for sure. I did take an extra dose of Vit C today and bought 2 bottles of green juice I saw in the store to get more nutrients. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Merry Christmas 🎄

Nic, I'm sorry you had to miss the service and that both of you are sick on Christmas.

My son gave us all a stomach flu recently and I was so scared of getting it, thinking it would be worse with Lyme. But it was no worse than normal.

Extra vitamin C sounds like a good idea. Hope you're both feeling better soon!

I too have gotten a bad cold during christmas. Same as you, I wonder if this might actually be a good sign. Anyone else with any input on that matter?

Interesting. I've been thinking about the same thing as in many of the comments. I have literally not have the flu in over 10 years, and were never sick until i started having lyme symptoms 1.5 years ago. My LLMD thinks I've had lyme a long time before this though.

Maybe my immune system never made any symptoms from fighting the flu

I actually posted on this forum a few days ago that I haven't gotten sick ever since I got Lyme.

Then I got a cold the day after I posted that.

I hope it's because I'm finally treating Lyme Disease after not knowing what it was for years. I hope it's a good sign.

I really would love for more people to post in here about possible theories, any theory would help really.

I now have a cold as well. Flared up on Christmas eve morning. I always used to get colds, once sometimes twice a year, for my entire life. As soon as I started Lyme symptoms, I never got a cold again. Even with house full of sick kids and husband, I never got it. Now I have been treating lyme for 10 weeks and now terribly sick with a cold/flu. Nothing I can't handle or will visit the doctor for, but I too found it very strange that I had no colds for years and now suddenly a cold.
I will take it as a good sign then! Have to stay positive!

I use to get a cold 3-4 times every winter.
Haven't had one in 4 years now.

I think getting a cold is a good sign.

Our son didn't get viruses/flu/colds going around for quite some time before we knew it was Lyme (other than the 20 day fever cycle) but after being in treatment for about a year he finally caught his first cold in a long time.

I believe it's a positive sign that previously suppressed immune system under chronic/late stage Lyme is coming back online which is a very good sign if you ask me. How the other viruses/bacteria aren't allowed in is beyond me.

The LLNP did tell us if he ever got strep we were to report it back to her so it could be dealt with immediately before resuming Lyme/co-infection treatments. They do not want PANS/PANDAS setting in.

Right now its hard to tell which symptoms are from the cold or lyme. I know the congestion and runny nose obviously are, but I am still really dizzy and "out of it" feeling and I am assuming it's lyme or a combination.

One really strange thing that started for me is this weird painful sensation on my scalp. It just feels sensitive.

I have read some posts about it on the forums but I guess no one really knows what it comes from? How long does it last? It's super annoying..

I've had the scalp burning/sensitivity too. I posted about it recently. It lasted a week or two and then subsided and returned a few times since. At first I thought it was a new symptom for me, but now I remember having that when my chronic Lyme symptoms first appeared in 2009.

I'm still not sure if it's a neuro Lyme symptom, a coinfection symptom, or symptom of toxins. When it's really bad it feels like my brain is on fire and toxins are trying to come out via my scalp. I had some mild hair loss around the same time, which contributed to my toxin theory.

I'm treating Lyme, bartonella, babesia, and just added more herbs for C. Pneumonia. Using Buhner's. I'm not on abx. Most of my symptoms seem like bartonella or neuro Lyme to me. I haven't had any night sweats or air hunger since before I started treatment, so I figure I'm not really hitting babesia yet.

NicHostetler this might sound stupid but what helps me with that is getting all the oil out of my hair.

Meaning, washing your hair more than usual. I know drying out your hair isn't usually a good thing, but with this symptom it really helps to do so.

Also, frequent hair cuts (as short as possible).

I've noticed the 'weight' on my scalp is what determines whether it hurts or not.
