No, strep does not seem to be my LLMD's his main concern.
However, there was one question out of two hundred on the pre-visit checklist/questionairre. I think the question said- Have you ever had strep throat before?.
During my first appointment as we were going through the health history he breezed through it and quickly moved on to the next section.
I was surprised when I got back home to find that out that of several blood tests I was to do, 2 of them were to test for strep antibodies.
Also to my surprise 2 of them came back really high. Here I dug up my tests and here is what they were:
anti-streptolysin O 527 (normal range 200IU or less)
Dnase B antibody 347 (normal range 301iu or less)
His practitioner called me when the results came in and didn't mention it. He also sent paper copies with his notes on it and didn't write anything on that result.
My Lyme Western Blot came back with 2 bands IGM (39, 41) and 4 IGG (30, 41, 58, 66) so I guess he wanted to focus on lyme.
Could Strep light up the Lyme Western Blot? Is there a Strep - Lyme connection? Is Strep just another co-infetion that comes out when Lyme jacks up your immune system? Can adults get PANDAS? I wonder if the Strep episode that almost killed me left lasting damage?
I have not had a bonafide case of Strep for about
5 years. Although there were a few times I was feeling rundown and started getting that feeling like Strep was coming on, but it would pass. I would be getting that "Strep crash" feeling (woozy, behind your body, malaise, extreme fatige, pale skin, temparature dysregulation). Then I would have a moderate sore throat for a few days then it would pass. Could those episodes have been Strep? maybe
I have been treating Lyme with antibiotics for 5 months now. I took a break after month 4 to see where I was and how long I could go before symptoms come back. On my 8th day I woke to a moderate headache, mega twitching everywhere (especially the glutes), crappy run down feeling. To my regret, I decided to plow through it without taking meds. I went to play volleyball that night hoping it would make me feel better. Boy was I wrong. I started tocrash near the last game and could barely make it to the car. By the time I got home I was at 103 fever curled up on the bathroom floor in misery waiting to use the shower. Thrashed in bed all night with sweats fever and headache, oh yeah and sore throat.
I started Clindamycin and within 12 hours started to feel better. After a few days not too bad.
Was that strep? maybe Sinus infection? maybe? Lyme, Babs, Bart? no idea
It's all so confounding
The strep episode that almost did me in was about
6-7 years ago I think. oral anti-biotics were not working. My throat was closing shut and I was having trouble getting air to my lungs. They gave me a few antibiotic and steroid injections and I started to recover. I had a few more injections over the next week at my doctors office. It seemed to pass.
Sorry for my whole strep life story. hahaha hope you like a short novel.
I will ask my LLMD about
it more on my upcoming appointment in about
3 weeks.
