Anyone have any experience at the Lyme clinic in Newport , RI?

I guess that was a bust anyway.

I called and they have an outgoing recording saying that lyme patients are now being directed to the Miriam hospital (infectious disease) lyme center. Which i don't understand because the opening of the Lyme center in Newport was pretty big news just 2 years ago. Don't know what happened.

I feel very hesitant to go to Miriam to an ID doc so guess I'm back to square one.

Never heard of a Newport Lyme Clinic. Forget ID docs they are nonbelievers of chronic Lyme. check out the ilads website for possible Ilads trained MDs in RI.

If you are willing to travel, there is the Dean Center(Spaulding Rehab , I believe) in Boston

There is a Lyme clinic in South County RI that got some good reviews when it opened.

There is another out on Cape Cod that pick-up business and press when Donta retired. But this is more similar to the one in Boston

I agree... Miriam Clinic or even the one at RI Hospital are run by ID ducks.

Otherwise get on the wait list for Lyme Center of NE booked out till June, but they do not take insurance (except for labs)

They all seem to be ID docs unfortunately at the local hospitals.

I'm seriously considering the Dean center but right now travel and $ would be an issue unless they accept disability insurance.

Tickbite, do you happen to have a link to some of the reviews for that south county place? I can't seem to find any. The only reviews I find for that place is for the ID doc who runs it and they are very, very negative for the most part.

I've checked around and he has a very bad rep around here for chronic Lyme patients. I want to be sure though before I discount them all together. I was also told by another CL patient that they were treated horribly by the hospital lyme clinics. Hard to know what to believe anymore. Their websites say they treat and understand but from what I'm hearing, they really don't. I don't know anymore really.

I do have an appt book for the Lyme Center of NE. My appt is in June. I have a family member trying to push me to go to one of the hospital clinics now.

ID Docs aren't always ones to avoid.

If they're lyme literate ...then that's the difference. It's the same with 'regular' MD's.

One of the best LLMD's is an ID Dr. (Dr. J in DC)

So, what you want is to find a LLMD - whether he/she is an ID Doc or an internist...or a GP - if they're Lyme literate - that is the key.

I am currently seeing an LLMD but so far, I'm having a lot of doubts. I heard that's not unusual though but I don't like the amount of time spent each appt ( very little) lack of testing, not really addressing my concerns, etc.

Since I made this post I've talked to a few local Lyme patients and they pretty much said that right now for me, esp since I cannot travel, that the LLMD I'm seeing or the Lyme Care Center are my best bets. I do have an appt with the lyme care center but not until June and not sure how I will afford it but I guess I have till then to try to figure it out somehow.

They did say the hosp clinics are pretty much just ID docs and the few I spoke to said to stay far away. Very confusing as everything is to me right now but I guess that's my answer. They've been through this before so I guess they know better than I do.

So the appointments are very short?


You might like Dr. J. 's clinic in Washington,DC.
I was told the first appointment is 2 + hours long.

Not sure about the follow-ups..but will find out soon enough. Planning an appt. (across the continent ) end of Jan or beg of February.
