Just about to start this antibiotic for the first time ever and afraid of anaphylactic shock

I will start today doxycycline for the first time in my life, what are the chances to pass out due to anaphylaxis? I was ok on azithromycin.

I was fine on Doxy if you are nervous,I would think its ok to just try half the dose to start for a few days and see how it goes.

Ok, so i think my symptoms on abx may be linked to POTS or eleveted heart rate, palpitations, and hard breathing. How do you treat POTS? I know Dr. H discusses it, but how is it treated? Salt? Does it help? And in general, do abx for lyme help with POTS? HELP!

Okay. Since rocephin is in a different class of abx, hopefully you won't experience an allergic reaction to the doxy.
Did you have other symptoms along with the breathing issues?

No that i know of, besides expected fatigue and increased headaches.

I have POTS. but mine is mild. When I stand from sitting, my heart rate goes up to over 100 bpm.

Treating the infections should also correct the POTS.
I know one treatment is beta blockers. But, they can also lower your blood pressure.

I've also been reading about exercise helping. But, you need to start gradually...and sometimes seated exercise is warranted - like a recumbent bike.

I have chronic POTS. Pulse shoots from mid 60's sitting to 120+ standing. I am chronically dehydrated. I am on homepathics for my heart rate, but also other meds. The antibiotics I've taken luckily are helping but it's a long road. Doxy hasn't ever bothered me. Just be careful in the sun

How long does your heart rate stay up?
Is it high until you sit down again ? Mine goes up to 100 to 110 but it does normalize after a short time.

It normalizes after about 20 minutes. This happens even when I'm not doing any type of activity and thank you for the welcome.

Mine seems to be somewhat better lately. Hoping it's because of treatment..and it will continue to improve.

I think it's much more common to be allergic to the cephalosporins (Rocephin's class) than tetracyclines (doxy's class). I have drug allergies so I know the fear, but you should be fine. I just take any new medicine during the day and around people.

Re: POTS, salt can help and sugar can make it worse. Just notice the effects (if any) on you.
