Hi Peppermint Tea,
That was my son using albuterol. JC recommended it when I was hesitant to use Ativan as a first line defense. He did end up taking an ativan once while away from home and that was pretty crazy.
It hit DS about the same time as your DS in treatment although our DS had trouble breathing before that. What happened was 2 things. General breathing was difficult and would come on in a heartbeat. The second thing is that at times it would devolve into what I guess was a panic attack and hypocalcimia (where his face would twitch and his fingers would clinch - very scary for all of us the first time it happened). We googled and tried having him breath into a paper bag (helped initially) etc. JC described it as an autonomic nervous response where the signals get mixed up.
JC gave us albuterol inhaler and Ativan scripts and we filled both. We carried Ativan with us and left a pill at school just in case he got really bad. However, he found the inhaler worked and he used it a lot the past 2 years (but not in excess), usually a few times a day. We still carry that but around just in case.
I recommend getting scripts for both. We did try nettle leaf but that didn't work. I didn't add in any herbs to supplement the babesia/myco treatments because I didn't want to exacerbate this symptom, which was a scary one for him. The feeling of suffocation is a serious one.
Hope this helps.
