Why is mepron so expensive?

What is the reason for that? The production is expensive? It is not a generic? There appears to be an epidemy in Africa, India, US and Europe of malaria and malaria like organisms, and yet it still is so ****in' gold.

One thing that struck me was discovering that malaria is treated in 2 weeks. If babesia takes 4-6 months at the bare minimum of anti-malarials and we know babesia isn't even HALF as deadly as malaria, how can malaria be treated in 2 weeks? Doesn't make any sense to me, unless malaria replicates faster.

If taken at the dose Dr. H prescribes, it is $10,000 a month. That's crazy expensive.

Mepron is the brand name for the drug Atovaquone. (I think?)
Buy the generic.

I'm not sure how much more reasonable it is. I think it's still expensive

Is there a generic? Malarone, if it is a generic, is about the same price as mepron, maybe slightly cheaper. The drug Atovaquone looks to be one of the most expensive anti-parasitic/anti-malarial drug out there.

malarone is different - it's a pill and it combines atovaquone with Proguanil.



So, maybe there isn't a cheaper version of the atovaquone liquid?

Doesn't one bottle last 3 weeks...on regular dose of 1 tsp twice daily?

I thought one bottle was about $1200


I've put a call into the Pharmacy where I'm going to be getting my meds at....I'll see what they say.
I can't even pay $1200 a month for 6 months.

My memory is not working... It was daptomycin, not mepron. But wonder what kind of drug would cost hat much anyway...
