Girlfriend very sick

A little over a month ago my gf of two years who is 29 and in great shape (soon to be fiancé) was complaining of a stiff neck. She brushed it off as sleeping wrong. Within a few days it grew worse, she then complained of a severe headache. A day later she developed Bell's palsy and went to the ER. They ordered a cr scan, while attempting she had a seizure. They planned on admitting her and kept her overnight however after a day waiting in the er they decided to send her home and have her follow up with a neurologist. Her dx was Bell's palsy and seizure disorder. None of which she had before. Her apt was 3 days later, within that time she complained of severe headaches and stiff neck along with right sided weakness in both her arm and leg. When she finally made it to the apt the dr immediately admitted her to the er. They did a spinal tap which showed high white blood cells. They said she had meningitis. They also noticed she had the varicella virus via blood work and a rash in her right ear. After a 10 day stay in the hospital on anti viral meds she was released even though she showed no improvement with her weakness or Bell's palsy. In addition she had a few seizures during her stay and her short term memory was gone. She was sent to rehab which ended very quickly after another siezure and she was transferred the New York Presbyterian. She stayed in nyp for almost 3 weeks having various tests done including another spinal tap. All they would confirm was she had the varicella virus and that's why she is the way she is. She completed the antiviral meds (3 weeks of acylivsr) and was again sent to rehab. Her right side began to recover although her Bell's palsy remained the same. After a week in rehab she had another siuzure and her left side went limp, both arm and leg. So her right side is ok now but her left side is paralyzed. Her MRI showed clear, ct showed clear, eeg showed nothing abnormal. She finished out her rehab and was sent home with phsyc meds. They kept telling her it is all in her head. So after that she is fisnlly home but not well. At all. She can battery walk, speech is slurred from the Bell's palsy and her ears are ringing all the time.her memory has recovered. I had lyme and I believe she may have it. I'm sending her to see an llmd. Just wondering if you all think this is lyme. Sorry for the insanely long story. Thank you for reading. I should add they did a pcr for Lyme and a cra test and saw nothing.

I'm no expert, but it certainly sounds like LD. Going to an LLMD is a good idea.

Its actually fits and is something that is easy to test. Not sure why a person wouldnt check it. Also remember a ton of LLMDs check and treat dental for every lyme patient. Someone here had notes on the lyme summit-you can check them.

lyme fits every symptom a person may have-dental come close to that also. You may go to mercola.com and read the artciles on root canals and polymicrobitial infections.

Good grief, LMFD! I'm so sorry your soon to be fiance has gone through all of that!

Don't forget that even the CDC has said that it may take numerous tests before a person will finally get a positive test - although some of us just can't mount the antibody response in order to produce those valuable antibodies for a positive test. Even the PCR's and such have great issues in detecting these infections, because they can easily miss a person that doesn't have a very high load of bacteria, and these diseases can cause great illness with even just a small amount of bacteria. So, don't wait for a positive test result.

I would say consider Lyme and Bartonella from the symptoms you shared with us. Getting her in to see your LLMD is the best option at this point, so good for you for getting that set up!

Do let us know what the LLMD has to say, get her detoxing, and all the other support things (diet, and such) that you can as well. And, keep asking questions!!!

The Bulls eye rash is a 100% indicator of lyme.

However, while Bell Palsy isn't a 100% indicator, Bell Palsy plus other lyme related symptoms is as close to 100% as you can get outside of the Bulls eye rash.

Thanks for the replys. I thought the exact same thing. It is just too much of a coincidence to have all these symptoms plus the Bell's palsy and weakness. It has to be Lyme. Llmd appt is tmrw. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thank you for your time.

Did she have any recent vaccines? Just a thought. I’m sure they tested ebv...I guess since everything checked out your left with lyme, mold, metals. Hopefully llmd looks at everything. Best of luck and please let us know how she makes out.

Thanks traveler. It's hard to watch her like this but I know she can beat this. I remember you giving me advice when I had lyme a few years back and I'm happy to say I consider myself "cured". I'm having her see the same llmd I saw.
