My dad was diagnosed with Lyme disease 2 months ago and is being treated in Ireland by a Lyme specialist with azithromycin and lymecycline. Although his symptoms have improved a little he is still extremely anxious, depressed and has very poor short term memory. Some days are worse than others. Has anyone made a full recovery from Lyme dementia? He's also taking turmeric, probiotics and supplements.

Hi and welcome to our forum,

Sorry that your father has Lyme but it is good you have found an LLMD.

It can take time to get to remission and healing but its possible.

Also when someone is treating you can have herxing which can increase your symptoms from the die off of the bacteria(Herximer reaction).

So its important to discuss with llmd detoxing and using binders.

Not sure if you and your llmd are open to adding in herbals but there are some specific ones that may help with Neuro Lyme. They can help to rebuild and repair the damage done.
Buhner's book "Healing Lyme" 2nd edition has info on this.

I think a lot of us have symptoms that might be interpreted as dementia if we were older. I often forget things, sometimes have trouble finding words, and get lost in familiar places. But many people do improve (though here you'll mostly find people who are still working on it). All of my local friends and family members who have had it consider themselves recovered, which gives me hope. Some had long journeys too.

Two months is still early. It can take time, and there will be ups and downs. Detoxing is so important. It's good that your dad is taking a combination of medicines and has your support. Best wishes for full healing!

Hello,

I'm a 58 year old male and my Lyme brain symtoms came on at once. Light headed, disrealization, short term memory loss, what is know here as Brain Fog. After I was sick like the flu for a week.

Short term memory was really bad. At one point I llost the ability to recall names of people I had not seen in awhile , like a neighbor.

Also there was a direct cooillation to my anxiety level, anger and blood pressure spikes. I'm on 4 times the Blood pressure meds I was on prior to the event. Meaning if my BP was above 135 , my brain fogs up,

In reading Rawls and Buhners books they state that Lyme can pass through the blood brain barrier. Which causes all kinds of havoc on your brain

Good news is they say the brain issues are reversible. And I would say I'm 60% better. It takes time to heal this up.

Seditives help a lot. I still use meclazine nightly to sleep. Back in my bad days I would take 3 rimes a day. Funny that while I was drozyier , my head was clearer. Mine is scripted level which is like Draminne OTC

Also the Herbs recommended in Buhners book for brain symtoms , really do work .. especially the Burbur-Pinella combo. A game changer for me.

Last the Ammonia from the die off has the same symtoms so detoxing is important.

I have these symptoms really bad now too, and among taking the other suggestions here (and just ordered some things) I'm about to add liposomal turmeric too, b/c it does seem liposomal varieties of herbs have much better assimilation, and I was reading about an experimental drug that is doing really well for Alzheimer's right now and based on turmeric so it's being taken seriously around dementia.

I realized the other day I couldn't name the first names or last of nearly all of my professors in college, which sort of makes the rest of my college education seem like a total wash at this point. I'm in my 40s, so that's pretty scary, it's not like it was centuries ago, and I too forget names of people constantly around me too, and have the "why am I in this room?" convo with myself every day.

During the early years of my treatments, I had reached the level of stage 6 of dementia, according to this chart: /www.dementiacarecentral.com/aboutdementia/facts/stages/ And stayed there for what felt like an eternity, but was only about 18 months.

I can't say that I have "fully" recovered, as I still bounce around between stage 2 & 3 - but that's fairly "normal" for my age group (I'm 54), so I feel I'm doing pretty good.

The others have shared good information with you - so I just want to encourage you to continue to ask questions and keep asking until you understand!!! Unless you have these infections as well, there is a lot that is really hard to understand! But, we are here to help out just as much as we can.
