Nose or Eyes Burn when using saline spray or drops?

I could have swore I saw someone else mention this the other day, and I can't find it now. Anyway, I've had this occur during brief periods over the past year and a half where the inside of my nose burns when I used saline spray or my eyes burn when using saline eyedrops.

BTW, I've used saline spray and drops for years. This had never happened before until about a year ago.

Does anyone know what this might indicate?

That might have been me that said it.

I mentioned in one of my other threads about my possible mold situation that whenever I use my netti pot lately, it burns the inside of my nostrils and sinuses too much that I have to stop. I can use saline spray in the nose ok, just not the netti pot. It's weird.

Weird thing is I was using it even like a month ago and didn't have that problem, it's just lately and have no idea why. I was also wondering if this happened to anyone else.

Yes. It is weird. I'd love to know what causes this. I have been out of mold exposure since Sep 2016 and don't recall having that symptom while still exposed, so I'm not inclined to think it was from mold, at least for me. When it happens, it almost feels like I have no mucosal protection inside my nose, like the tissues are dried out, even though my nose is wet and somewhat congested most all the time. The same thing has happened before with my eyes. I put drops in them because they were dry, and the drops burned.

The winter by has been incredibly dry. Even our dogs paw pads have cracks! So maybe try a humidifier or, my mom's trick, vaseline in the nose first. Even breathing boiling water can help. Steam showers.

With a neti pot, you can reduce the amount of salt. Saline has pretty low content I think, but if you have any cracks or sensitivity from dryness I think that would cause some discomfort.

So since I posted the other day, Invested in a new netti pot, different design and comes with saline packets. So far no burning with this one. Hopefully it stays that way. The other was fine for a while too then started burning. So weird.

Vaseline around the nostrils can cause problems for some people if small particles are inhaled, it can accumulate in the lungs faster than the body can clear it.
