I’ve been invited to a hen doo. (Bachelorette party) ... none of my friends really know I’m dealing with lyme and co, they know I got bit and took antibiotics and that’s it. I just don’t want to go into it with everyone...

So this party... it would be so nice to have a glass or 2 of wine... anyone still do that?

yes, I still partake now and then. It effects everyone differently. Be careful and drink plenty of water after.

yup i had 2 yesterday i noticed a bit of a hot feeling in head afterwards like i was getting sick. i'm going to hazard a guess i was killing off some bugs due to the alcohol.

alcohol effects everyone differently some are flat on the floor for days others not much but what is true is that whatever you are drinking with alcohol is isn't good for you.

I tried a vodka drink and my feet went numb. Certain beers give me a bad headache. I'm generally ok with ciders (high sugar though), some beer, and red wine. I usually only have 1 drink though - 2 would push it.

Thank you all. Yeah it’s a tricky one, I just don’t want to be a fly on the wall for the whole party ( gosh I should like a teenager!)

I’m hoping one or two followed by lots and lots of water and some activated charcoal won’t give me too much trouble but let’s see.

Yeah, probably a little too often lately. Doesn't bother me the way it used to. Ever since being on Buhners. Just make sure you're not on antibiotics that might contradict.

Enjoy, but try to plan some rest time afterwards! That way if it hits you wrong, you won't be needing to do things that day.

I did a glass of wine while I was treating. I regretted it and felt like I had set myself backwards.

I'm not sure how far along in the treatment process you are, but I don't see why a few glasses of wine would be a problem. I guess it depends on how you're feeling and what you're taking.

I make it a point to go out with friends and have a few drinks every month or two, just to keep myself sane after spending so much time at home in bed these last few years. The other thing I would say is definitely do not take any activated charcoal if you are currently on antibiotics, herbs, or tinctures. The charcoal will clear out everything, and significantly reduce the effectiveness of what you're taking. My Lyme doctor warned me about this a while ago.

PeteZa- this is exactly my concern, taking steps backwards after all this hard work!

Intuition- my reason too! Just want to feel free for a bit smile forget about the herbs, symptoms, uncertainty etc and just be me. smile I think as long as the activated charcoal is taken 2 hours away from everything it’s ok. smile

I don't do it now while I'm on antibiotics. Currently taking 4 types and 1 antiviral. I've had problems with my liver values, so that's the reason I don't drink anything at all. I don't get affected badly from it I think, just that I'm nervous for my liver. It's really annoying thoug, since I'm only 30 years old and most if not all social gatherings brings along alcohol. Well, my friends knows I'm dealing with this crap and I do attend some gatherings without drinking, but it's a pain in the ass. I am taking periodic controls of my liver values, and if they go down, I'll probably have a few drinks smile

Yep same here redlabel, 36 and my socialising generally means having a drink in hand, I haven’t drank in so long, I was pregnant, then breastfeeding for 16 months and the got lyme!

Yes, as long as the charcoal is kept 2 hours away from other things, it's fine to use. The body will process things through in that amount of time, so you aren't 'risking' harming your treatments by using a binder, as long as you follow these guidelines.

I do understand what you are talking about, even though I didn't know I had Lyme in my teens, 20's and 30's (it was just the "mysterious illness") - it definitely interfered with social gatherings simply because I couldn't drink like the others my age. I'm so sorry you all are having to deal with this on top of everything else too.

Oddly, I only started craving red wine *after* getting Lyme/bart/babs. I actually think (red wine specifically) is a better source of resveratrol to kill bartonella than other things I've tried (like knotweed). It just feels to my body more bioavailable, and like it helps my brain (a study just found it may work this way for Alzheimer's, by clearing the brain, basically).

So I'll have a glass of red wine (more occasionally) at least 2 hrs away from antibiotics. Lots of water after. So far so good. I'm also getting regular liver testing and my liver is golden (I do liver support though, milk thistle, etc.).

Basically if it makes you feel horrible the next day, instead of better, you're probably too alcohol tolerant to be drinking at all. But otherwise, I say do what feels good, as long as you're allowing plenty of time to flush out the alcohol between meds doses and aren't being excessive.

I no longer enjoy drinking since I got sick. It seems to make me feel crappy. It seems like the first couple of drinks do absolutely nothing, then drinks 2-5 bring out and/or intensify the malaise/discomfort/ dark feelings Lyme has punished me with.

I am praying I can get fully recovered and be able to enjoy a drink here and there once again. I do miss it.

Hopefully you will get some pleasure out of the drinks, and not have to pay the price later!

Maybe you could do a couple test runs before the party?

I did not read all this. However, anyone killing these critters is putting there liver under stress. Any alcohol adds to this. Just cause some do this does not make it a good daily practice. Now and then one at a time, prob not a big deal.

But If your herxing, or have been experiencing high liver enzymes, alcohol is worse, and we only have one liver.

Obviously anyone on Flagyl ABX needs to stay clear of alcohol- you will experience the worst hangover ever from very little amount.
