I'm on an antibiotic protocol for Bart which currently includes Clarithro and Rifampin...will be eventually adding Rifabutin...it seems to have activated my 'always there but previously more latent' joint aches.
I have the Buhner protocol tinctures but have been too scared to take them. I don't want to be experimenting on my own. Do they really help kick Bart and cure you? Has anyone cured themselves with it?
Also - how do you CHECK to see if you have candida? Are there any identifiable candida symptoms?
Thanks a lot, guys! So badly in need of support from the uncertainty of this disease- my doc doesn't have a great bedside manner!
Buhner's herbs do cause Bart symptoms to intensify. I can only assume that means it is doing something to kill Bart. I'm 8 months into the Buhner protocol and have recently had a big flare of Bart symptoms after some initial improvements. It's going to take me a while. I've had this stuff for decades.
Don't be too afraid of the Buhner herbs. Just start with tiny doses. When starting a new herb, I like to do a taste test. I put one drop of the herb (usually tincture drops) on or under my tongue and see what my initial reaction is. If I don't notice any symptoms from it, I'll increase by a drop or two until I get some kind of symptom response for better or worse.
Just so you know, the herbs that increase symptoms for many people are houttynia (which is in the IHA formula), sida acuta (which is in the CSA formula), Japanese knotweed and cat's claw. I would start with a few drops or 1/8 tsp or less if using powdered herbs of those. Any antibacterial herbs have the potential to cause a herx, so start with low doses and slowly increase.
If you're on abx and already herxing from that, I would wait until you're not herxing before adding herbs.
Just like with abx, herx reactions from herbs can occur quickly or come days to weeks later. Just keep that in mind.
