Hello Cat Lady, I was very sorry to read about
your problems with Lyme. I hope you're feeling a bit better since your earlier post. I was concerned for you since I don't see from your post that you are doing enough to overcome this foul illness. I wanted to share my experiences with Lyme in Belgium, in case it can help you.
I've been dealing with this illness for 8-9 years now and had 3 positive diagnoses over that time. I've taken 3-6 week courses of Doxycycline several times, and felt better, but the symptoms always returned a year or so later. Whether it's recurrence or reinfection, we'll never know. Ticks seem to like me. I've even been bitten in my garden :-/
Anyway, the Doxy treatments culminated in my taking 200mg per day for some 6 months, along with vitamin B12 injections. I was fine for about
18 months until the symptoms slowly began to creep back last year (muscle aches, body stiffness, joint pain, fatigue, poor sleep).
I didn't want go back down the Doxy path. Such long term antibiotic use cannot be healthy. I have mild tinnitus now which I've read might be due to Doxy. Instead, I decided to try more natural healing methods. Plants cannot go to the doctor so it makes sense that they've developed their own defences, right?
You may have heard of the book "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner. From reading that, I bought several powders (cats claw, astralagus and andrographis paniculata..) and made tea by boiling combinations for 20-30 minutes, leaving to stand and then straining.
I feel I've had great results with these teas which I was drinking on an empty stomach in the morning and last thing at night. The taste was initially awful - incredibly bitter! I added fruit to the boil (apple chunks or clementine peel) to make it taste better. But here and now, after a month or so, my aches and pains are very much less and I am much quicker round the squash court, my personal sport drug.
** I need to add a caveat here. After 6-8 weeks, my palate just above my top gum got really painful and I noticed flecks of blood in the tissue when I blew my nose. I was researching this problem which led me to see your post.
I've stopped drinking the tea for the last week or so and my palate and nose are fine again. I will wait another week before continuing with lower concentrations, but continue I will, for sure. I am confident it is working.
Anyway, the short story is that I can definitely recommend buying Buhner's book and experimenting with making tea from these powders. Listen to your body and find the strength/combination that works for you. By the way, another important note with the cats claw tea is to brush your teeth straight after or the dark red colour will stain them.
I hope this information is of help to you or anyone else struggling with Lyme disease.
