Cough medicine

I have horrible cold and last night spent a big part of my night coughing. I found some nighttime cough medicine in my cupboard (dextromethorphan and doxylamine succinate) it's called nighttime cough control, but I'm a little nervous about taking it. Has anyone taking cough medicine while treating Lyme and cos?

Dextromethorphan actually blunts excitotoxicity in the brain, so it helps somewhat with hypersensitivity symptoms at brain level. I didn't take it for sleep per se, but have taken it for *that,* though I only then take the cough syrup version with that one active ingredient, not the other you mentioned (which I think is a suppressant?).

I'd cautious against taking anything with much of a cough suppressant though if any danger of having flu this flu season, just b/c coughing is important for preventing pneumonia. You can look up cough therapy to make a cough more "productive" in that case.
