Sudden loss of vision

I woke up this morning with loss of vision in one of my eyes. I couldn't focus it at all. There's pain coming from it too. I spent all day in an emergency center, to be transferred to a hospital, to wait around for hours, just to be told that it might be conjunctivitis.

My eye wasn't red.

I had no discharge, no extra tears or build up of crustyness.

Just pressure and pain in my eye. Mainly on the top side.

After a few hours my vision came back. Anyone else experice this?

I'm new to Lyme, and all doctors offices are closed due to bad weather. So my choices were the er, and emergency center. Neither we're helpful.

I'm so sorry. That must have been very scary for you. I have had blurry and fluctuating vision, floaters, and repeated infections from clogged oil glands in my eyelids, but no vision loss that severe. Most of that happened before I knew about Lyme. All that's better now. I do know that bartonella, in particular, seems to affect the eyes. Babesia can cause pressure sensations in the head.

I was kinda frieghtened with the sudden loss of vision. But, since I knew it was most likely Lyme effecting my eye, I didn't really panic, just knew I needed to have it checked up on. But it was definitely an irritating day for me.

I think I did test positive for both of those bacterias. I also know that Lyme is attacking my nervous system, organs and brain.

I'm new to this diagnosis, and I'm learning everyday. I'm just in-between the full diagnosis and treatment stage. So, it's very fustraiting right now.

Hi I also had many episodes of eye issues including a black /curtain/bar coming down in my field of vision, blurry, foggy like spot and it can be scary. They have all gone away with continued treatment. I blame mine on Bartonella, but all these infections can have overlapping symptoms sometimes.

My eye symptoms include pressure, pain mostly near the back of the eyes, blurry vision, temporary blackouts lasting a second or two almost like there is delayed communication from my eye to my brain, upside down vision where the sky and ground switch places, spinning vision where everything in my field of vision seems to be turning, floaters, and slow focus where my eyes take a few seconds when switching from near objects to far.

I've been treating Lyme for 8 months now and these symptoms have eased.

I have been able to get temporary relief from these symptoms when they are really bad by taking 1 to 2 tbs of oral liposomal glutathione (maybe you could ask your doctor about trying this remedy yourself?).

I definitely be have the pressure and blurring on vision. It's like abfog that can't be lifted.

Today, my eye hurts like pressure, and the vision is like coming and going, or like, this a missing spot in my vision. Luckily, it's only the one eye, I'll be calling my natropath Monday to let them know that I am experiencing this new symptom. I'll ask them what I should do since I'm stick in limbo until my full labs get back.

It stinks that the regular medical field didn't even test, or even try to look for correlating symptoms that I asked about. While at the hospital....

I actually had to go out of network to find a doctor that would look for the reasons, not just cover up the symptoms.

It would be like someone with strep, being given something just to numb the throat, not kill the bacterium causing it.

Sorry about my rant. sad

Today is a little bit better, but it feels like I have pressure in my eye/and looking through a fog/ pieces missing from my vision.

The pain comes and goes.

SickKitty - I think it would be wise for you to have an eye exam.


I went to the Optometrist to have my vision checked and when she heard I had lyme, she wanted to do a comprehensive exam - she looked at the back of my eyeballs...and checked for swelling of the optic nerve. Then she sent me for a Visual fields test.
(I was surprised she was even interested in Lyme - because almost everyone here in my city knows nothing about it...even those in the health field)

I really should go back again because that was over two years ago now.

Yes, it did!

I had pressure in my head behind my eyes...so I was concerned. But, everything was good.


In fact, she told me I didn't need my glasses anymore - to throw them away. (I got glasses about 6 or 7 years ago - due to eye strain from work) Well, because of lyme, I haven't been working..and my vision went back to normal...

Go figure!
