Odd symptom- intense internal pressure/squeezing/tightness

Just wanted to see if anyone had success figuring out and treating symptoms like this:
(For what it's worth, just started directly going after ammonia the past week but couldn't find similar experiences).
My wife has been thrashing in pain. Can't sit/lay still, crying in pain
- her body feels like it does when you hold your breathe (build up of internal pressure) this makes me think it's a gas problem either ammonia or excess Co2
- squeezing pain. From her stomach up thru her heart, into her neck. (Neck pressure/fullness convinces her that her arteries must be a problem).
- stabbing pain
- the chest pressure and squeezing feels like a heart attack (supposedly).
- all these pains "take her breathe away"(although her oxygen sat is better than mine!)

Her blood pressure is normal, pulse is normal (For her - she is on a beta-blocker).
Today just started on Devils claw in hopes that it would help.

Does this sound anything like ammonia detox?

Thanks guys (oh and she goes to see her Functional Doc next Wednesday. Will get her labs rechecked and see if he has any thoughts).

You seriously need to consider seeking a top llmd. Dr J's clinic in Washington DC is a good one to check out,many members here go there. I know of another in Maryland you can email and I will give you the name.

I have read your original post and you stated that she is using Nutrimedix herbals but what specific herbal s are being used to treat the specific infections and is she taking anything herbal to help protect her heart ?

I used Jerrnigans anttitox II cns/pns for helping with ammonia issues and I did not have any reactions like that. Instead I had some improvements.


Hoping others with some input on this will be along soon. i am keeping you both inmy thoughts and hoping things turn around soon.

BDRoland - that sounds nerve related to me.

I had some issues around my rib cage area...and I do think it's my nerves being affected by the infections.

I was concerned about arteries in my neck, as well. I had neck pain, and sore neck (and it didn't seem like it was muscle related), plus the nerve pain down my left arm. Also a practitioner checked my pulse on both wrists and they were different....that's not a good thing.

But, that area is much better now...I do think it's nerve inflammation.

Had some episodes where my rib area locked up...and it felt like someone was squeezing my ribs.
I think it was what people with MS call the "MS Hug".

Is your wife taking Hawthorne? (as goshawk asked - is your wife taking anything for her heart?)
Hawthorn herb is very good for heart/blood vessels. I purchase mine from Woodland Essence.

Also CoQ10 is another supplement I take for my heart - except not now as I'm on Mepron and they don't go together.

If you do want the information on the J Clinic - send me an email...I will give you the prices, etc.
If you're thinking it's too expensive to travel there...just know that the appointments are not every 4 weeks...they are every few months. (usually 3-4 months apart)

Yes - please email me. It may be time to spring for one of the best LLMDs in the country. She's seen some well known top (per people's opinions) Lyme Docs in Pennsylvania for years at a time with very little results. And then we've made quite a financial investment with a new Functional Medicine Doc that seems to be overwhelmed with her case. These bad decisions or lack of results make it that much harder to decide to up and move on to a completely new doc (but regardless it may be time).

I've considered the Hansa Center but in some post and forums people have said that it's not the best for chronic lymes... not sure how true that is. But i would hate to go for two weeks to make more of a mess, and not get down to the heart of it.

My next moves are either Buhners herbal protocols or a brand new doc.

Girlie - feel free to email me about Dr. J. Does he do mostly antibiotics? She had very bad reactions to that in the past.

Heart supplements - no Hawthorne (tried it in the past).
Currently taking - coq10 and omegas, but no herbs (that I know of that are heart related).

Hawthorne- one of the many supplements she has cycled thru. Didn't seem to make any improvement.

There are people from this forum who went to Hansa and were greatly helped. Use the search feature and type Hansa Lyme to find the threads. If she couldn't tolerate antibiotics, that may be a viable option.
Mi agree with goshawk. Her condition sounds very serious. She needs expert care. I'm not at all surprised the new doc seems overwhelmed by her case. It does sound quite extreme.

If you have time and care to answer, I've been curious about her story. In your first post, you mentioned she had been functional until you went on a family vacation. She got a bad migraine at the end of the trip and was never the same again. I don't recall you mentioning if anything happened on that trip or where it was. Was she in an area where she may have been exposed to ticks? mold? red tide, blue-green algae, ciguaterra, any other biotoxin?

this sounds like advanced Babesia to me.

I would get a artemsenin tincture and start on the that immediately, then get an appt with an LLMD and see about getting on an ABX protocol for Babs, do this ASAP

also EGCG is good for babs as is IV ascorbic acid if you can find someone to do it.

Sorry - I never answered - yes dr j clinic is focussed on antibiotic treatment, but also wants the patient to stabilize as well - will look at sleep, pain issues.. etc

There are folks on this forum who had good experiences with Hansa. You can use the search feature to read about it. I agree with goshawk. Her case sounds very serious and she needs expert care.

If you don't mind me asking, I'm curious about what happened on that vacation. In your first post, you mentioned she was functional prior to that trip. She got a bad headache at the end and hasn't been the same since. I don't recall you mentioning any other details about it. Did she have an insect or animal bite of any kind on that vacation? Was she possibly exposed to mold, blue-green algae, red tide, ciguaterra, or any other biotoxin?

Forgot to address the main issue. If this pain just started, then STOP whatever you just introduced. Thrashing in pain is serious business.

Does her functional MD have after hours answering service? If so, I would call them. If not, I would call in the morning. Something is seriously wrong.

Didn't you mention histamine issues before? Do you know if any of the herbs or supplements she's taking can increase histamine? Is she on a low histamine diet? I don't know anything about the drug or other treatments for that. Is she getting specific treatment? If not, that could possibly be one of her primary issues causing such intense symptoms.

I noticed nitric oxide in your list of supplements, I've had terrible reactions to l-arginine (which is supposed to increase levels of nitric oxide) with widespread pain and general increase in symptoms.

Re: Hansa Centre - Id say the results/reviews are mixed.

For that amount of $$ for two weeks - I’d want more than that.

Of course if I had some spare $$ laying around I’d certainly go.

Lapis- yes they just 'rediscovered' babesia maybe 2 weeks ago. Previously all signs of it were gone. So you've had terrible nerve/muscle pain with babs? I'll look into artemsenin- that was good for symptom relief?

Yes - stopped some newer things coinciding with this more recent pain. Also have stopped Nitric Oxide.

Walkingbyfaith- yes it was strange > went on a family vacation near Atlantic City, New Jersey - so ticks/mosquitos/algae probably/biotoxins all very possible. It was also told.to us that they spray beaches heavily with chemicals - maybe that caused hormone disruption, no clue. It also was a stressful trip - my brother had been recently diagnosed with ALS and it was progressing rather quickly (the impetus for the trip).

After that she had a migraine (ended up lasting for a week, off and on I guess). Don't know if that was stress caused or if she caught something on vacation (illness, tick bite, food borne illness). The subsequent ER trips (3) were disastrous for the migraine. Only weakening and worsening her condition- the stress and allergies to medications (given to her in the hospital) destroyed her adrenals and thyroid. That was the first hole to climb out of. Improved by August, got worse thru September, got very bad in December (ER trip on Christmas leading to a new prescription - betablocker).

The Artemisinin is a treatment for Babesia. So not for symptom relief. In fact she could herx on the Artemisinin.

Just wanted to second (or third or fourth) the recommendation to take her to Dr. J's clinic asap. I go there and that's where I would take any family member who was in that condition.

Is she feeling any better today?

I think it has diminished a little bit today. The pressure has decreased. The only change has been quite a bit of Devils Claw - hopefully that has helped lower inflammation.

Girlie - I stand corrected she does take Hawthorne lol I didn't know it was in a cardiostolix suppl she takes from Douglas Labs. She previously had done just straight Hawthorne tincture.

hawthorn is a nice heart tonic, but if you are in the midst of a serious BAbesia storm it aint gonna do sht, so to speak.

You didn't ask me...but....Dr. J. will go off older lab work. He understands the plight of Lyme patients as much, or better than most Dr's. He's been at it for many years.
I went there a few months ago and my Igenex test was from 2014. They didn't seem to be that interested anyway.
They focus more on clinically diagnosing.

And, they don't test ...or ask you to test for co-infections...Dr. J will treat all three.

Sorry I'm late getting back here but I'm glad she was feeling better. Hope she's even better now.

Yes, my old test was enough for the clinic, along with symptoms.
