Lingering Pain After Blood Draw - Experience With This?

Just wanted to have some folks weigh in on this. On Monday, I had my blood drawn at my regular Doc’s office for a Bart test and a CBC. I usually only feel pain when the needle first goes in, but this one was painful and uncomfortable the whole time. Not awful (no tingling or “electric shock” feeling that I can recall) but it sure hurt worse than normal. It didn’t bleed any more after I took the bandage off and I thought no more of it. It was fine the next day (Tuesday).

However, it’s now Thursday, and I’m feeling a dull pain in my arm and it feels a bit weak. No tingling or numbness, but it definitely hurts. Also, when I stretch it, the site where the needle stick was feels tight, like someone is tugging on it almost. I’ve NEVER had an issue like this before so I’m a little concerned.

Is this normal or should I be concerned about permanent damage?

I've had blood drawn a LOT the last 20 years, mostly from thyroid labs.

My arms are very "veiny", lots of choices (prob a heroine users dream LOL), but I know what vein works the best and tell them. This is important to know.

The bigger the vein , the worse to draw from, as they kinda "roll" around when needled and get black and blue for several days, a little sore. I dont let them aim for the big veins anymore, no matter what they tell me. **Are you bruised, black / blue there???**

Some people (non-lyme) have collapsing veins as they get older and internally bleed a little.

I had a very bad blood draw - and it was my worst nigtmare coming true as I’ve always been a wimp when it comes to needles of any kind.

I should have turned around and walked out when I saw the lab tech - it was one that my husband had a bad experience with. She jabbed him really hard and he ended up with a huge bruise from the bleeding.

So she jabbed me - and hit a nerve - pain shot down my arm to my hand and I told her it really hurt.
She continued to fill the tubes anyway.

I called the lab head office a few days later as the pain was still really bad. They said she should have pulled it out right away - leaving it in can do damage.
And she should have known to do this.
They said they knew who I was talking about with me giving just her hair colour - so she’s obviously had complaints before. They also mentioned they’d be retraining her.

It took months for the daily pain to subside.
Now I only feel it once in a while.
