Yes, great question, because I found out it matters.
Tinctures are technically more potent than extracts, most tablets and all powders, but we should all really be taking the fresh, raw, whole part of the herb wherever possible If you cant find fresh herbs, high quality natural (non heat processed) tinctures are almost as good. This is backed by science now. (Buhner is a genius and knows this).
I cant find the NIH study again, but it was noted that powder is dramatically less potent than the fresh herb itself. The study was specific to Tumeric, where it was noted that the Curcumin within Tumeric was only 5-10% as powerful as the fresh Tumeric root itself. The fresh Tumeric also had other synergistic antioxidants that were destroyed anytime the herb was dried or even shredded. NIH also concluded this was just the tip of the iceberg and that there are an ocean of other healing properties (both known and unknown) that are destroyed during the reduction to powder form. So if you take the powder form you are losing out on a large spectrum of other secret compounds that are likely helping you too.
You should be able to find similar studies for Ginsing and the range of Chinese mushrooms too. Hope this helps you.
