You can try taking nothing for a few days and see what happens. I'll tell you what happened to me.
I got sick in December and took Augmentin for 7 days for a sinus infection. I lost the little progress I'd made with my joint and foot stiffness. Then I started getting awful tissue pain and feeling inflamed all over. My head symptoms diminished in the weeks following while my body pain and weakness got exponentially worse. I continued with my Buhner herbs and kept trying to increase doses. Nothing relieved my symptoms.
about 2-3 weeks ago after experiencing some alarming new symptoms of sudden onset of weakness, slight dizziness, and headaches that came and went, I got really sick one Tuesday with diarrhea and vomiting. Doctor thought it was as a stomach virus even though I told him it didn't feel like one. I stopped all my herbs and supplements that day and went on a liquid diet for 2 days followed by a soft diet for a couple days. Four days after the diarrhea, it happened again with just diarrhea that time.
While my gut was whacked out, I briefly stopped all treatment except berberine, licorice, and Bidens to keep hitting the gut bug. Symptoms got worse. I slowly added back reduced doses of knotweed and IHA formula and started feeling better. This was the first improvement I'd had since before I got sick in December.
I honestly don't know exactly what happened. I feel like the diarrhea/vomiting thing was getting rid of some kind of pathogen in my gut, but what exactly I don't know. After the second episode of diarrhea, I felt relief from the abdominal discomfort I'd had for months.
Now I'm back on most but not all my herbs, still at reduced dosages and still at only 2x day instead of 3. I feel like I'm herxing less but still have bad days mixed in with some good ones. Better than weeks/months of all bad days!!
You said earlier you went back on abx because you were not improving on the herbal protocol you were doing. Do you think you might have been doing too much too fast with the herbs and weren't improving because you were herxing?
I've been sick for years and not much of anything makes me feel better. I also have mold illness and HLA-DR genetic susceptibility to Lyme and multiple biotoxins. Maybe that's why I don't improve noticeably like others do. Maybe I have less tolerance for pain and can't handle the herxes. Hard to know. I just know I seem to respond differently than others and differently now than I did months ago.
Quitting isn't an option for me. I can't do nothing. Not after years of suffering not even knowing what was wrong with me. Now that I know at least some of what I'm dealing with, I am compelled to do something.
Your body is different now than it was the last time you treated. So what worked before may or may not work now. What your body tolerated before, it may not tolerate now. Don't feel discouraged about it, though. It's treatable. It just may take a different approach and a lighter (or heavier) hand. You might have to experiment a bit to figure out how to move forward, but you'll get there.
