probiotics at same time as herbs?

For over a year I've been thinking I need to take my probiotics separate from the herbs I take to kill lyme & co. But something I read written by Dr Rawls made me think now that I don't need to carefully keep them separate.

Does anyone know? Do the herbs kills good gut bacteria?

That is a good question, I will defer to someone more knowledgeable, but my 2¢ first: I think I heard somewhere where folks and people were taking Doxycycline with Grapefruit seed extract powder together (a hybrid world between traditional antimalarial abx and herbal cyst buster) but don't quote me on that, that is if GSE powder is technically an "herb." They both (doxy and gse) kill bacteria.

Here would be my measured approached though I personally like to cycle through, wash out, dry out and have a "fresh" start and am wary of mixing drugs and herbs anyway. I would take it slowly and see how you tolerate it, if you have GI problems then adjust more probiotics or more abx herbs accordingly.

For instance, I took cholestyramine this morning, with a fatty meal, then I had a big minced elephant clove garlic (raw) with dinner and now I have GI event and low grade fever just from that, meaning my system has been activated to fight bacteria within. I would feel the same sorts of things when I took my freestyle Buhners (cats claw, teasel root, otoba bark, gse...) just a matter of how much of a "load" (immune reaction/bacteria/die-off) your body can take and process at one time.

I don't know if they "cancel each other out" per se, per HzKabod's question, perhaps lessen the effects of (i always have to read prescript labels as to take with or without food and still cant remember), again it's a great question best answered by a scientific article or two. My understanding is that the microbiome is comprised of billions of organisms, and we are constantly repopulating and/or cultivating them, starving them, or killing them with each meal, drug or supplement we take anyway, herbals included.

And plus there seems to be a debate about pulsing vs straightforward abx, and cycling on and off, there are probably PhD/MDs that couldn't give a perfect answer on how to titrate for maximum benefit.

And I should say I'm not even sure if taking my HBP meds, psych meds and antibiotics at the same time could interact sometimes. I try to research each one and look for any major interactions or contraindications, but as happens with st johns wort or a simple glass of grapefruit juice, enzymes can set things off and one must be careful.

So I'm more mindful to lean toward "friendly" diet (cabbage) and probiotics (lactobacillus and friends.)

My lyme fogged meningitis fever brain can't wrap around the finer points of some of this, but I try to read as much as I can to learn about abx and when therapeutic may become damaging or too much.

btw I don't think you can overdose or do much damage with probiotics, can you?

I am interested in this too, I can only assume that taking a probiotic along with something that kills bacteria isnt ideal. Kind of cancelling each other out
