I just joined this forum, and was looking for the proper thread to post my great discovery. You just gave it to me
My naturopath recommended a turmeric supplement called Curcum-Evail (by Designs for Health). It worked amazingly for my inflammation and pain, and no other turmeric supplement helps me. The trick is said to be the suspension in lecithin - which greatly increases its bioavailability.
She put me on it before I knew I had Lyme (then Babesia) because I had fluid and inflammation in my ears making me terribly dizzy. The doctor said all I could do was take Prednisone (my mom had a bad reaction to that, so I said NO). Curcum-Evail helped me a lot, but when Lyme reared its ugly head, the pain (in my elbows, and hips, and feet, and back) got worse, and she said I could take 2 caps a day (1000 mg each). PAIN GONE. Very rarely returns, and never to the degree it was before.
It's expensive (about
$50/bottle of 60, so on 2 it only lasts me a month) so I thought I'd be smart and get something from the drug store for much cheaper. I made the switch and it was awful. Pain came back, dizzy, felt horrible. Grudgingly reordered Curcum-Evail, and in a few days, the pain left.
I see that other people have felt better with turmeric (they don't say what brand). If you have something cheaper that really really works, I'd love to know too!
I just found a brand called Adaptogen Research has the exact equivalent called Curcuma BioAvail. I am using that now because its a little cheaper ($38/bottle) and I'm not in pain, but I did have a terribly dizzy spell for a few days. Don't know if that's inflammation or a Babesia herx...
As far as reactions, I don't know of any. I'm on Zithromax, Mepron, Amoxicillin, many natural supplements containing B vitamins, D3 5000IU, Wellbutrin, fish oil, and a million other things.
