I got some pain in my right jaw joint about 4 days ago, also affecting my ability to open wide.

By thrs (a day ago) I could not bite down all the way in the back as it would hurt if I did. So I cannot chew food as throughly. The general jaw pain had gone down.
Now I'm swollen right under my right ear, near the jaw joint and it hurts to touch. I've had tmj since maybe my 20s which made me a bit stiff opening wide but didnt bother me too much. I also wear a night guard for past months. I had taken a few months break from it prior.

Well saw the regular dentist and although he says there may be some inflammation in the joint he doesn't think its tmj and guessed had to do with Lyme.
He said to see pcp first.

So should I call my other dentist, who is holistic and seen lyme patients for many years or call my regular lyme doc outright? I read there can be swelling with tmj episode like this. So I'm pretty confused now. confused

I think I'd try the LLMD first.


If he/she can't help you, then the holistic dentist.

Jaw issues (tendon) and swollen nodes sounds strongly like bartonella. Talk to your LLMD.

I was so certain it was TMJ. Hm.

So this is not some separate infection?

My first treatment for lyme was heavy internal doses of oregano oil. (Im allergic to all antibiotics that treat lyme). I didnt know what a herx was. After 2 weeks of the oregano I developed the worst jaw pain of my life. My neck froze up. I thought it was a reaction to the oregeno so I quit it. A small piece of jawbone broke off and a month later worked its way through the gum line. I tweezered it out. I suspect the jawbone was infected and the pain was a herx.

Yours sounds like a herx, but you should call your physician.

I had upped my houttyinia by one drop for 3 days, stopped when I got more nerve symptoms. And I went back down around 7/11. Nothing else has changed.

I saw my pcp...and she thought I have sialadenitis (salivary gland inflammation and stones). Which I guess i can see. But she said it's caused by not enough hydration (which I don't think is me). Readint about it though, it says it's caused by a virus or bacterial infection. "most commonly affects the elderly and chronically ill especially those with dry mouth or who are dehydrated, but can also affected people of any age including newborn babies."

Bartonella can infect salivary glands. Again, suspect bartonella.

I have suffered with a similar symptom.

an achiness in my left submandible lymph node and jaw area. i have had CT scan, and multiple docs tell me there is no swelling there. i did have an inflamed lingual tonsil on that side, that i suspected of cause the lymph node achiness and sporadic thrombing of my teeth. my dentist told me there no issues with my teeth.

i have always suspect that it was bartonella, or the inflamed lingual tonsil, or possibly candida. recently i suspected it may have also been reactivated EBV, as my titers were elevated over the winter.

what brought me relief or seems to be helping was light to moderate exercise, and eating 2-3 cloves of raw organic garlic a day. i have been doing this for close to two weeks now, and achiness has dramatically decreased. i am on a cocktail of meds and supplements so its hard to say what has exactly attributed to its improvement

I had the same symptoms but on the left side. No abx or herb did much to help, even when my dentist injected abx directly into my gums.

Then when my doctor changed my abx to Ceptin, voila! the pain disappeared. A few weeks after changing from Ceptin to Mino the pain started to come back, but not as bad.

So can bart cause sialadenitis? Which seems to be inflammation of the salivary gland.
