Western Blot Assay Test

I want to take a Western Blot Assay test and will like u all to help me out b4 i take the test.

Do it have a western Blot Assay test specific for lyme disease?
I am thinking of taking a western blot assay test then show it to a doctor or/and a LLMD.
I think western blot assay is the only test available where i live.
Do the western blot assay test also test for co-infections of lyme disease? Or will it show on the result?

Hi Carib,

I would only get one if it is through Igenex. You can try it through a generic labcorp if your insurance covers it otherwise I would not waste my money. The western blot does not specifically test for co-infections; and you have to order separate test for different co-infections.

Are you located in the Caribbean?

I’m thinking the test you’re asking about will just be a lyme test - not coinfections

Are you able to get a test kit from Igenex?

I am from the Caribbean, St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
The doctor here said it have western blot assay test here but it is to test for HIV, so i am not sure if that test will work for lyme too

No, quite the opposite. You are smart to go to an LLMD first if you suspect tick borne, or rather any long standing infections. Most mainstream doctors will barely even explore the possibility. Many times it can be difficult to get them to even sign off on testing.

An LLMD will take the time to explore all possibilities for the root cause of your symptoms generally*** some are better than others of course.

I am not aware of any LLMD's in the Caribbean...

I would bet there are some, you guys have a lot of mosquito borne infections right? And those infections are documented to have chronic implications right?

Phone Igenex and ask for a test kit to be sent. Then you have a Dr. sign the lab req. The Lyme WB Igm and IgG costs a total of $250.
Do the blood draw on a Monday, ship off via Fedex to Igenex. (You want it to get there before the weekend as they are closed on weekends...and the samples will end up sitting somewhere.

No, you don't need a positive test to see a LLMD. A 'real' LLMD will diagnose clinically (based on symptoms, exposure to ticks....etc.) and use testing only as a backup.

I'm wondering if there are LLMD's in the Caribbean....I don't think I have any listed.
Are you able to travel? There are some LLMD's who will do phone appts. but you need to travel for the initial consult and periodic appointments after that...with phone appts. in between.

Missours - yea i read alot of those kinda stuff on this forum.
I plan to try this forum and other websites to check for any LLMD in the Caribbean.

I am not sure about mosquito borne infections stuffs.
