Hi everyone,

I hopeful to get any insight I can regarding a new diagnosis. Recently I had IGeneX run new blood work and I came up positive Igm on Lyme. Also IGeneX also did a Babesia duncani IFA test, and it looks like I was Igm positive with a 1:40 titer. Is this normal after having symptoms for over 9 months? I have Been tested by my primary months ago through lab Corp and I was Negative. Also, I went Through a Lyme doc and received a Lyme diagnosis back in January. I’ve received antibiotic treatment but it didn’t impact my symptoms.

I’ve been suffering from ear pain, tongue pain, legs and joint pain, dizziness at times, and muscle twitching. The twitching has got me conerned over the past few months. Primarily in my calves, but it can show up anywhere, including my face. I’ve had numerous neurological tests and all come back normal, Including Emg.

Would a new babesia test like the above explain my symptoms? Any help would be appreciated. The pain in my ear and tongue is really unbearable. Thank you all!

Hi JR,

I also tested negative through labcorp but positive through Igenex. There are several ways to heal from lyme. If antibiotics didn't work for you I might suggest trying a naturopath or herbalist. Some times lyme can cause the symptoms, other times it can be in indirect results like a Vitamin B deficiency FROM lyme that could be causing symptoms. That is why most of us are on supplements to address a lot of those secondary issues.

Let us know if you need any assistance. And in my opinion, these diseases can cause I wide range of symptoms so I certainly would not rule out that babesia could cause it. It is likely that you have had babesia the whole time you had lyme and that would indicate that your lyme was not treated adequately.

Same boat here - my symptoms are slightly different but from what’s I understand the little ******s attack you where you’re most vulnerable...

My research points towards BART for what I’m experiencing (not dissimilar to your list) have you been screened for bartonella?

Thank you both for your replies. I have been screened for Bart, again through labcorp. It can back negative. I have Heard it could be the cause of some of my issues as well. I’m meeting with my Lyme doc again Tuesday. I’m just at a loss, and hopeful this new babesia test could point to some answers. Does the above result for babesia indicate an active issue? Even after many months?

Looks like you have both Lyme and Babesia that need to be treated.

What were you taking when you treated it?

The Babesia medication is an antimalarial ususlly paired with an antibiotic.
You may also have Bartonella which is a different treatment.

Just be aware that there are more than one strains of bartonella.

They are finding out that for some of us infected with Bartonella, it isn't always the classic "cat scratch" (henselae)strain. It can be another strain of Bart.

Possibly that could be the reason for negative or just that testing can be difficult and unreliable sometimes.

You can be clinically diagnosed by symptoms.


Also how is your magnesium and B12, sometimes taking a supplement can be helpful for the twitches .

Thank you. I will Bring this up this week when meeting with my Lyme doc. Can Lyme/Bab-Bart affect cranial nerves to the point when we have pain in eat and tongue which affects speech? Has anyone ever heard of that as a symptom?

Yes, bartonella has effected my speech before but Lyme can also do that. I also experience a closing of the throat sensation. Numbness in the face, throat, head.

For speech my words were slurred a bit, couldn't remember words , used the wrong words.

Many members here have horrible pain with these infections.

Treatment helps but it can take time and can be lots of one step forward, many steps back sometimes.

Always rule out other serious issues. Consult with your llmd.

For me strokes, MS and Lupus were all ruled out.

Hope you get some relief soon.
