My daughter does not follow the recommended diet(very worried)...which is no bread or sugar..anyone go into remission or get better by not following this plan? I have found a bread that is yeast and sugar free..it is a flatbread. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure there's people that heal ok without following a strict diet. A diet of no sugar, gluten, dairy is to not feed any parasites, bacteria, etc... with additional fuel. Gluten is an inflammatory food that can disrupt gi health and complicate recovery in immune deficient hosts. So, the diet is strongly recommended. But if she's keeping these things occassionally, it should be ok.

Why risk it?

It doesn't seem to make sense to me how the 60 seconds of pleasure eating junk food and/ or bread potentially jacks up their chances to heal or slows the healing process.

Its always risk vs. reward isn't it?

There are a lot of treats that do not have gluten and sugar. You just have to try different things.

I would say the worst thing is snack foods with sugar in them, and sugary breakfast cereals. I think bread is probably okay. Flatbread is the best, I think. I used to make my own desserts, and sweeten them with a very small amount of honey. (honey is sweeter than sugar).

I know what you are saying about why risk it...I don't know what to do about really...shes 18 and well I say all the time you should not be eating this stuff...wondering if anyone else has this issue with anyone in their family that has this.
