Co-infection testing necessary?

Good weekend all.
I've tested positive for Lyme through IGeneX. I'm fortunate to have few symptoms now (arm pain, tinnitus, slightly blurred vision, very occasional "flu" days). I've decided to start Buhner's soon, hoping that will take care of things. I haven't made it through the whole book yet, so I have quite the learning curve ahead of me.

Through online research I've read - repeatedly - that if you don't treat co-infections first, your lyme protocol may not work.
I have not been tested for co-infections. The testing runs $700-1000. Despite having limited financial resources I'm prepared to proceed sensibly and do whatever is necessary to beat this into full submission.

My question is whether it's deemed necessary to test for co-infections before starting the Buhner Lyme protocol, as the co-infection protocol is different and should possibly be done prior?

To me it depends on one's situation and resources. If you have resources, coinfections testing can be helpful. Otherwise I think money is better spent on treatment. One method I really like for untangling infections that can be at play is gauging empirical dose-response to therapeutics. This involves some trial and error, trying different antimicrobials and gauging response, but usually ends up being a lot cheaper than investing in testing which isn't perfect in its own right.

If you respond to anti-protozoals that is likely telling you that you have a protozoal infection. You can use pharma like malarone/mepron, or try herbal antimcrobials like cryptolepis.

Bartonella and lyme tend to respond to some similar meds, but either way if you respond to those meds it's indicative of those infections. You can usually cover bart/lyme with the right combo of therapeutics, although there are some like rifampin/rifabutin and the quinolones that seem to particularly target bartonella.

Super, sounds like a plan. Buhner has different protocols for each of the infections, his books and website are a great resource for anyone interested in herbal treatments. One suggestion: I'd start with one antimicrobial at a time. Go slow and low.

As you build into the protocols you can gauge your responses. Can always rotate new antimicrobials into the treatments, this stuff can involve some trial and error. Buhner provides basic frameworks, but he says a degree of improvisation is sometimes necessary. Each case is slightly different and may require different things.
