what type of drug is alinia?

Im sorry if I've asked this before, or if there's ALREADY been a thread on this.
I wuz wondering if there's any known adverse effects from longterm use?

I pulsed it for a year ,a relatively new drug...it hits everything some ,lyme ,bart ,protozoan even more effective on viruses than tamiflu...
Its was some ruff emotional herxes like straightjacket status

It may be high in aluminum (overseas version) they want exorbant amount here from pharmacy

What were your pulses like - how many days a week/month...etc.


I'm on it for 5 days a month for 3-4 months currently.

Dr. J wants it to be taken alone...and make note of what happens....lol.....

My insurance will also only cover 6 pills. I get my rx for 60 pills a month through Foundation Care in Missouri. I pay $300 and they overnight ship for free.

I've always taken it with Biaxin and Rifampin and no worms.

Bad herx second week -wretched heaving nausea, parasites ohhhhh yes including loads of mysterious ropeworm (i have plenty of pics and samples) yet mayo never saw anything in my stool, what a joke. Broke out in head to toe kill me now hives which took me to the er when i gave up 4 days oatmeal bath. After this been on it probably 2 years i just get the daily want to puke poop and die fatigue waves from sllllowly fighting gram negative.......im feeling like a million bux after adding doxy for 2 weeks.

I once read someone comparing alinia to flagyl but i had a totally worse/different reaction to flagyl, not sure if chemically similar, i just know alinia is supposed to be antibiotics, antiviral, antiparasitic

Ive found alinia helpful but not "enough" eg on its own

My llmd had me start slow ...and ramp up ...first 2 days on then 4 opposite my roceph...toward the end only 2 days a week

I do the 500 mg twice daily for like 2 years now, like I was saying, the only acute herx was like week 2 with the crazy nausea and poo with parasites (including the curezone trademark 'ropeworms')...but my GI symptoms (very long term - used to have UC) improved a LOT after this so none of the GI stuff was like worrisome, it was just clearly antiparasitic but the nausea was intense, I became close friends with Ondansetron at that time oh yes and ginger, though my LLND thought it could hamper the herx and I kind of agree.

After I rode that first wave, a little later I had the hives and like I said I tried to ride it out but after 4 days covered in bright red itchy welts I went to the ER for the injectable antihistamines and after that it pretty much killed any acute herx

Since then, I just get the occasional "feel like complete crud" for a few hours after taking my morning dose. I know it's from hitting my deep seated gram-negative friends. I try to drink lotsa water and alkaseltzer gold when I can if its bad.

Also FYI it will make your pee like fluorescent green or yellow, it's known for that.

I think it has been helpful in healing my GI and a good addition to other treatment though not enough for my gram negative nasties. I think it's a solid product, but feeling much better with the doxy addition lately.
