3-year old with Ehrlichia & 3 others HELP!!!

Could someone please fill me in?

My 3-year old was just diagnosed with this.

I had Lyme etc, before my pregnancy, but no known co-infections. She also lit up some areas (mildly) on Babesia and Bartonella.

She didn't show any activity on the test for Lyme.

Her symptoms are excessive all-night twitching, major behavioral changes, a bit of ADHD.

Thank you so much for some HOPEFULLY encouraging insight.

You mean Ehrlichia right?

I don’t know what the specific Pharma treatment is because I think it’s ususlly treated when lyme is -

What lab was the testing done at?

Yes. Ehrlichia. Do you know anything about it? We tested her at DNA Connections in Colorado Springs - it was a urine test.

Ok so its good you are aware of what you are dealing with.

The twitching points to Bartonella in my book. Its a hallmark symptom.
BUt she has multiple infections....many of the protocols llmd's prescribe do cover more than one infection.

I would consult with a pediatric llmd or herbalist.

There is Dr,J in Connecticut , you could start a post asking other members for recommendations for a pediatric llmd.

Meanwhile Buhner does have a co infection book that includes Ehrlichia. So you would be able to be informed about the infection, even if not treating your child with herbals.

Stay strong, you will figure all of this out and there is definitely hope for your child to get better.

I don't know where to start. I'm so scared. I'm also very sick myself. Someone please help guide me.

Are these infections worse than having Lyme? I'm surprised Lyme didn't show up..

Ehrlichia is in the family anaplasmataceae.

They are part of the Proteobacteria phylum.

It is a gram negative bacteria which is a bit more difficult to treat.

The Ehrlichia as of 2014 was known to have seven species.

Treatment: Ehrlichial and anaplasmal bacteria are resistant to most antibiotis:aminoglycosides(gentamicin),fluoproquinolones(cipro), beta-lactams(penicillins), macrolides and ketolides (erythromycin and telithromycin), and sulfa containing drugs(co-trimoxazole).

They do respond well to tetracyclines, especially doxycycline. If doxy cant be used, rifampin is an effective alternative.


So all of the above was taken fro Stephen Buhner's co infection book. He goes into even greater depth of this infection in the book.

Please do you own dilligence and I highly recommend hi books for gaining and insight as to how these infections function in the human body.

Yogi I have heard of others having these infections and getting better.

I sure do understand that you are scared but the best thing to do is find an llmd and start the proper treatment.

Even though she has many infections she could conquer all of this.

Try to find peace in the fact that you know what she has, there are paths of treatment and you have this forum to lean on for questions and support.

I apologize if I made you worry more, I was trying to give you more information on this infection.

Some llmds will do phone consults after the first visit. So that may be of help.

You are not alone , we are here and hopefully others will be along to help out also.

I’m sorry - I had forgotten that you relapsed.

Dr Burrascano recommends doxy and in tough cases also Rifampin - but young children shouldn’t take doxy - so a LLMD will need an alternative.

Is travelling an option ? Dr J in DC was taking on Peds cases - not sure if he is anymore.
(They do allow some appts via phone call. Travel for me works out to be only twice a year)

Most of us have more than one infection - often Ehrlichia isn’t tested so we don’t even know it’s one of our coinfections.
Many of us have Lyme and Bart and or Babesia .


Try not to worry about her having several infections - that’s usually the case.



Find a Lyme Dr for her and it will take some of the burden off you.

Yogi, you can start a new post asking all members for help in locating a pediatric llmd in Colorado.

You can also search at ilads.org for a llmd in your area and even if they arnt a pediatric one they may be of help or now where to refer you to for your child.

I probably say this too often on here but monolaurin has been my lifesaver. I don't push any particular brand but the inspired nutrition kind is cheaper although most people go for the lauricidin brand. both are on amazon and it's very easy to give to children as long as they don't chew it. I've given to my kids to prevent illnesses and they take it with no fuss.

you should start with 1 pellet and ramp up slowly. it kills almost everything and it's totally natural. some say it loosens bowel movements but in my case that was a plus. its cheap and better that abx in every way in my opinion.

read up on it. there is research on pubmed and many stories about it on pandas/lyme chat rooms where parents have success with it for there children. I have kids and my heart goes out to you. god bless you and your family

also, research pandas syndrome, which some say is caused by strep, lyme, bart, etc... very similar symptoms to what you describe

Hi Yogi,

It's totally understandable that you are scared, I would be too if I had a young child with these infections. I knew a young Mom who gave her 3 year old detox baths every day (only 1/2 cup to 1 cup of Epsom salts) and that helped him. She also used Essential Oils (not in the bath), something I don't know much about.

Anyway I had ehrlichia and it's 100% safe to give your daughter Borrelogen (I believe the dosing is on the bottle). Research shows patients that took Borrelogen had more lyme antigens in their urine compared to conventional antibiotics (LUAT Test). This testing was done by IgeneX and another lab.

Try to take a deep breath okay? Your daughter will get better!

I have always strongly suspected I was infected with one of the Erlichias. From what I read Missouri is basically the epicenter for Erlichia. I also believe twitching to be an Erlichia symptom. Twitching was a big one for me.

Jo's list of abx above did not include the cephalosporins, which work(ed) wonders for me. Not sure what the science says or if there have been clinical trials of Erlichia being treated with cephalosporins. I'm not even sure they prescribe Cephalosporins to kids.

I did respond well to other abx as well.

Your child is lucky to have you for a parent as you are keen to consider proper early treatment instead of most pediatrician's "wait-and see" approach.
