If it's happening every 20 seconds or so that would led me to think spasm. It could be a muscle or tendon spasm caused from tension in the area due to inflammation or pain. Try a heating pad and then take your thumb under your jaw line all the way up almost to your ears and press to relieve the tension there.
Ice pick headaches are usually ones that feel like an ice pick is shoved in your eye, right at the bridge of your nose. At least that's been my experience. All headaches are truly miserable. I've found my heating pad to be the most help.
It feels 'nervy' not muscle. I have been pushing/presssing...rubbing...etc. Haven't tried heating pad.
I'm thinking maybe ice...as if it's nerves that may help... That did work for my shoulder blade nerve pain.
Okay - so not an ice pick headache...as it's definitely not in the front.I get the same thing pretty often. Ice used to help but now hurts. I think it's connected to spasms and blood flow so heat helps a ton. Try both for 10 minutes while laying down and relaxing and see which helps.
If heat helps-I use the sunbeam shoulder heating pad. I can tuck one edge under my under arm and run it up my neck extending it up the side of my head. Makes a world of difference. It’s calmed down some - but I suspect it will ramp up this evening as most of my symptoms do..
I’ll get a heating pad ready to use - see if it helps.
