Plaquenil help with rifampin/rifabutin resistance

Aside from increasing abx effectiveness, can plaquenil help with rifampin/rifabutin resistance?

I don't know. I've never taken plaquenil. Neither of my LL Dr.'s prescribed it.

Are you taking another antibiotic with the Rifampin?

Hopefully someone else will be able to advise.

Yes in going to be taking minocycline for bartonella and i heard its better to take 2 antibiotics with rifabutin instead of one for resistance.

I would think that would be good.

I hadn’t heard a third was necessary though. Many llmd’s just pair riffy with one. (Including the Bart “guru” Dr M

its common to pair azithro or biaxin, with mino, and rifampin or rifabutin. i did 7 months of azithr-mino-rifabutin (daily doses)

I don't know the answer technically, but I would think that theoretically the answer would be yes. Plus you'd add in a little coverage for babesia with plaquenil. My doc had me on that combo (rifabutin, plaquenil, minocycline). Seemed pretty effective, but my main issue seems to be babesia, I was supposed to add in malarone but it always made me go crazy when it was added on top of those other meds. The minocycline def made me herx bad for a few weeks.
