Can spiders carry Lyme?

Hello, I have been reading conflicting reports online if spiders can carry Lyme or not. The reason I am asking is because my 8 year old cousin just got bit by a spider and it looks very similar to the atypical EM rash that I got in October (circular red rash with a non itchy bug bite in the middle that felt deep into the skin). I have not tested positive for Lyme yet but am on 6 weeks of antibiotics. Soon after I discovered my bite and rash I developed a sore throat, cough, low grade fever, a white tounge and insomnia but since going on antibiotics my only symptoms have been headaches and feeling down, which could be related to other things. Thank you for your help.

I personally believe other things besides ticks can carry lyme. I too have ready articles that discuss possible other insects/carriers of the disease. I believe anything that taps into our blood could be passing on their pathogens. Why would mosquitoes be able to pass on malaria but not lyme?

Spiders can harbor the borrelia bacteria, but IMO, they are unlikely to be able to transmit it to humans. I'll spare you the science as to why I think this way.

I was very healthy until I was bit by a medium sized spider on my shoulder in 2001. I killed it and flipped it away. Ten days later my symptoms started and I was told at the hospital that my illness had nothing to do with a 10 day old bite that was still quite swollen. Strange symptoms continued off/on for years that doctors could not explain exploding in 2010. I was told I had MS in 2010 was finally diagnosed with lyme and co-infections in 2012. So in my personal opinion, yes spiders do carry these diseases.

After I was bit I had a purple reddish rash that not only itched like crazy but grew in size. I had a biopsy of my rash and the doctor told me I was bit by a spider, not a tick. So yes, I believe based on my personal experience that spiders can transmit lyme bacteria.

Lyme disease has recently received a new definition. It now refers to illnesses transferred by insects, as opposed to simply a tick-borne disease. Mosquitoes can carry Lyme disease and many other serious infections, as can spiders, fleas and mites.

I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge. It's so discouraging when Doctors don't take insect bite/rashes seriously, the same thing happened to me when I went to an immediate care for my bite/rash. It's important to share the information that other insects can carry Lyme, I am going to ask my LLMD if she knows that this is the case now. Its also good that you all finally discovered what was causing your health problems and are doing better now. I will keep everyone updated on my and my cousins test results.

I had similar experience with spider's bite this summer, got typical bull's eye first time in my life, even tough I've probably had Lyme for 47years. Two months after the bite my PCR Lyme test was negative, the same as a year before. My LLMD clinically diagnosed me with Lyme, my GP doesn't believe it, her working diagnosis, MS. I got tick bite when I was 9 and after that I experienced typical Lyme symptoms but no bull's eye rush.
Maybe spider's bite can give the same rush?

If a spider can transmit the bacteria, then I would think a rash could form...as it's the body's response to the bacteria...shouldn't matter what insect did the transferring...

How is treatment going so far?
