CRP test done - does it mean anything?

When I went to my 'regular' Dr. a few days ago for a lab req to do kidney function tests....and while I was there - I told her that I felt like I had inflammation...vague body pain (when she asked how I was doing)

She asked if we had tested for CRP before (C-Reactive Protein) and I said we had a few years ago...but she gave me a lab req anyway.
It can sometimes be present in autoimmune diseases..

Anyway...results back:

Serum proteins
C Reactive Protein (High Sensitivity) Result < 0.3 The range is < 4.8

So, I guess I'm good.

Not sure if this means something...or just a useless test.

ESR (Erythro-Sedimentation Rate) and CRP (C-Reactive Protein) are generally used to detect inflammation in the body, CRP also is used to test for autoimmune diseases along with a battery of other autoimmune tests (such as Anti-CCP, ANA, etc.) That's a normal result. smile

I've had all these tests done right after Bart and found clear. Even if you feel a bit of inflammation (like I did), it doesn't necessarily show up in CRP, but it may show up as a slight elevation in your ESR, which is normal.

Likewise. My CRP and highly sensitive CRP are always really good. I was under the impression that this is a chronic inflammatory disease so it always confuses me that those markers are low in us

I get hs-CRP regularly. CRP is used for inflammation, and for cardiac risk. its a more modern test similar of old Sed Rate.

mine was borderline back in January, it was at the top of the reference range. since taking Fish Oil it drops it down very low now.

i ended up in emerg a couple years ago i didnt know at the time but found out later it was what i believe was a bad herx from houttunyia. They thought i was on drugs racing heart sweats pain etc they did all kinds of blood work on me including hooking me up to monitor my heart and did drug tests etc only thing that came back that was really out of range was crp which was way high 15.1 or thereabouts and low sodium etc.

Wierd thing was the houttunyia i took only like 5 drops a day or so for the first week didnt notice anything so upped it to 10 then a lil more it didnt hit me till 20 days in or so. after my emerg visit i stopped everything which wasnt much at the time was on minocycline and one other i forget which plus a couple herbs. I then slowly started to re introduce things and it was the houttunyia but it only takes a day or two now before i feel it. even to this day i dont do well on houttunyia at all i tried very low doses for a month at a time but it just ends up crippling me till i give it up and never see improvement on it.

I always have a normal CRP, excellent actually. I don't think it's the best measure of inflammation because I definitely have a lot of that going on...

I would consider CRP as a non-specific test. if elevelated, a rough gauge pointing to a potentially bigger or other issue.
