Antibiotic going to run out before next LLMD appt

Due to the holiday and clinic closures, I had to make my LLMD appointment 31 days from my last. I have a script for 30 days of my antibiotic, so that means I'll be going over 24 hours before he can write my a new script.

I dont want to be without it in my body for that long, especially since it has a low half-life.

I was thinking about my options, but maybe you can help. My antibiotic is clarithromycin 2x/day and I just started taking it this month (last abx was doxy)

Option 1: Take as prescribed and run out a day before your appointment. Get new script and take it ASAP when you get it.

Option 2: Skip a dose in the middle of the month so you dont have to go more than 24 hours without a dose.

Option 3: Supplement with another macrolide abx on the last day. I have a z-pack and I could pop azithro the day that I run out so I don't have to skip any doses.

Any other options? Thanks!

Option 1 makes the most sense to me. Personally I wouldn't sweat missing a few days of biaxin.

And if it helps assuage worries, a lot of doctors use pulse therapy to treat the infections. So sometimes not taking a med everyday is ok. I don't think biaxin is often used that way, but still, I don't think it will be a problem.

You could also get some herbals like sida acuta, houttuynia, allicin, and things like that to increase bart coverage as well if you are worried about missing treatment.

Ooo never thought about that. It's for babs and I still have my antimalarial so I will do some research to see what herbs I could take. Thanks!

Ah gotcha! I didn't know biaxin could be used for babesia, but there can be a lot of cross-coverage with these meds... in regards to babesia herbs I really like liposomal artemisinin, zhang brand artemisiae, allicin, CSA (from woodlands essence). My favorite to start off with would probably be CSA because it is a combo of three herbs so has nice coverage. Buhner recommends it for babesia. I'd actually run the artemesia/inin by your doc if you were considering taking that, it can have some interactions. CSA is generally ok to take with other stuff as I think allicin is.

My insurance wouldn't cover azithro for more than 15 days so another macrolide abx had to do. My LLMD is going to switch it out or add on next month depending on how I'm responding. I think I'm responding well! That's why I don't want to hinder my progress.

I haven’t read all the replies.

Call the dr office and ask.

I just called my LLMD office because I’m running out before my appt. they are sending scripts to my pharmacy for the amount I need to fill the gap.

Also want to say that one day without isn’t a big deal.

You may be a couple days without - by the time you get the script filled and take it - two days without isn’t a big deal either.

Quin, I am really hesitant to do that. Is this a legit and reliable thing that people do? How can you trust the authenticity of the drug?

The carithromycin that I bought from Inhouse Pharmacy was definitely legitimate, and actually ended up being less expensive than getting it at a local pharmacy after my health insurance upped my copay.

You don’t need to - you have a LLMD writing scripts for you -

Unless you’re looking for cheaper meds.

Yeah my fiance just told me that I can call them to write me a 1 or 2 day script.

Well, so did I, but my doctor didn't "write" the scripts, so much as call/email it in to the pharmacy. Which I would have to pester the doctors office to do, and often they only did it right before I ran out. Then my insurance refused to pay for one of the scripts. Inhouse Pharmacy actually ended up being the cheaper and less hassle option.

If you're going to order from there, be aware that it takes 3-4 days for the payment to clear, and then 7-10 days to ship. So order at least 2 weeks in advance.

BTW, the prices between IHP and ADC aren't directly comparable. All Day Chemist charges $15 for shipping. Inhouse Pharmacy includes the shipping cost in their pricing, and gives a quantity discount. I've generally found The Swiss Pharmacy to be a bit more expensive than the other two, but I've ordered from there, and they do deliver (in about 2-3 weeks).
