Concerns about effects of root canal

Okay, I read a little about the two types of scans. I can't see a need for them, as I'm already sure of the abscess.

The bio. periodontist recommended getting the tooth pulled. He tried to convince me that if he used PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) during the procedure, I'd have very little pain or inflammation afterwards. I was shocked that he said that, cause I can't imagine any scenario in which my Lyme and co filled body would not react with huge inflammation after having a tooth extracted.

Can anyone comment on that part?

I went through a lot of this. I had a front tooth that had been root canaled in high school and once some major health issues set in after college and a good deal of options were exhausted i began to focus on the tooth as a possible cause of my issues. The tooth with the root canal had no obvious infection but i did eventually convince a dentist to pull it and went through the process of getting an implant.

I'm not personally convinced that Gutta Percha is toxic. It would be somewhat isolated inside the dead tooth and it's a quite small volume that is used, but that's just my opinion.

Unfortunately with this situation you aren't really left with a great option in either direction. My health did not improve after having the root canal tooth extracted and the implantation process was somewhat traumatic, costly, time consuming and the final result is aesthetically not great.

I do have some peace of mind by no longer having the root canal tooth in my mouth so that i don't have to worry that is the cause of my problems, for what it's worth.

Certainly it is possible for bacteria to wind up in the tubules of the dead root-canaled tooth, but whether the usual type of mouth bacteria that might take harbor there would wind up causing serious health problems, I'm skeptical of. If your concern is Lyme bacteria winding up in the tooth, that is something I don't have a lot of knowledge about.

I wouldn't be too concerned about experiencing pain or inflammation after getting your tooth extracted. If the tooth is infected your body will likely be glad to have it out.

I have no experience with bridges but the implant process of having a bone graft done after the extraction, then waiting, then having the implant screw placed, then waiting some more, then having the top-piece placed, then creating a false tooth to sit on the implant and all the mouth molds and appointments that all of that took- it was a lot.

People that don't have serious health problems might find getting implants a minor nuisance but for me it was quite an ordeal.

I have not had an extraction with Lyme. I do understand your concern about the trauma and inflammation. I had all my amalgams replaced this past summer in 2 visits - 8 teeth involved and work performed in all 4 quads. Work was done on the left side first and then the right.

While it was not an extraction, it was an uncomfortable experience and took about 2 hours each appointment. I had onlays installed in 3 quads, and a lot of pressure was applied on those. I had a good deal of heat/cold and pressure sensitivity in my teeth for about 4-5 weeks.

I also got shocked at my 2nd appointment from the numbing shot. I thought the dentist had hit my tongue. I had no lasting repercussions, though.

While all that was an uncomfortable experience and I had significant systemic inflammation in my body at the time the work was done, I had no regrets at all. about 5 weeks after my last appointment, I went with my mother to her first appointment and suddenly realized how much better I was at that point than I had been when I had my work done.

You have an abscess in your mouth. The biological dentist advised pulling it and using plasma. That sounds like the correct option from what I have read. I guarantee you that abcess is contributing to the inflammation in your body. Get that out and your inflammation will decrease. It may happen instantly or gradually, but it should definitely happen.

I’d trust the doctor and get it done.

But, you know, this perio, while he comes across as very smart, also came across as very arrogant.

I get it. I really do. I had a very hard time trusting the dentist I saw. While he was a biological dentist who was SMART certified, he did not know about some of the things I asked him about that I had read about on the internet. He did have a great chairside manner and was very patient with me. He was open to hearing all my concerns and addressing all my questions.

Still, I drug out the process because of fear and uncertainty. My first appointment was in January, and I didn’t start the amalgam removal until June. I was very afraid that my body would suddenly start dumping mercury and I would end up worse off than I already was. Thankfully that didn’t happen.

If this doc is arrogant and you don’t feel comfortable with him, is there another biological dentist you can go to? Did you find him on the IAOMT site? He’s not in NY is he?

There does seem to be a great deal of anecdotal evidence of people who were quite ill, and then improved their health, at least somewhat, after having a root canal and/or infected tooth removed. I'm not saying it's gospel, but i has happened.

I'm not, in any way, assuming it will improve my health. I'm just hoping it won't make it worse.

I'm way too ill to believe anything will truly help my health long-term at this point. Not after what I've been through.
