Elevated liver enzymes/low platelets

Hey guys,

So just got my safety lab results back and my liver enzyme levels have increased considerably... (AST - 63/ALT - 128) ... I'm more concerned about the ALT levels as the highest they have ever been was around mid 70s. The strange thing is.. I don't feel particularly more ill than when I got my safety lab results last week and both my AST and ALT levels at that time were in the mid 20s.

Another thing that is new with this one is that my platelet counts are slightly low... 140 x 10^3. Should I be concerned about this? First time it dipped this low but not that much outside of reference range?

Everything else on CBC is normal aside from immature granulocytes in blood but that has been going on for awhile.

My doctor has advised me to take a break from antibiotics and retest on Monday. Has anyone experienced liver levels being this erratic during treatment?

I would really prefer not to pause treatment so I ask... what could happen if we continue treatment despite liver enzymes being high?

Ugh, I'm starting to dread going to get my my safety labs done... seems like it adds to my anxiety more than I already have. -.-

Some insight would be appreciated.. Thank you.

Yes, I had high liver enzymes early on in treatment. After about 4 months they started to climb....and then a few more months later...my LLND pulled me off the abx.
I discussed with my regular Dr. and she said not to worry about it...she's seen liver function tests - way higher than mine...and the liver can regenerate itself.

Within a couple of months, my liver enzymes went back to normal and I resumed abx. Never rose again.

I don't use antibiotics but mine have been elevated for a year I guess. The doctor isn't concerned, she says they just vary and genetics and blah blah. They haven't been this bad before though so I'm kind of mad they're not worrying about it. I do coffee enemas and that's the only thing that gets them down.

Hmm yeah I remember you mentioning that you had liver enzyme issues early on. How high did they get? Also, yours never came back elevated again? How often do you do safety labs? Mine has normalized on multiple occasions...usually within a week...but never has my AST value been this high though. ><

Is it possible for liver enzyme levels be high just for no reason? Like a false-positive?

I’d have to dig through the mountain of paperwork - which I can do later.

Right - never elevated again (except my bilirubin - but this was elevated since my teen years - prior to lyme treatment)

I do safety labs every 4 weeks approximately .

I don’t think they’re elevated without a reason - but that reason may not be serious or dangerous .

You can always take a break from treatment to allow them to come down... you might feel better about it then.
Mine came down quickly - I was off abx three months - but they started to drop right away.

A few days may not be long enough to see anything

I think taking a break isn't a bad idea, have you talked to your dr about possibly taking herbals during the breaks so that you can keep treatment going? I always mention the Byron white formulas, I really like those... don't know if you are already taking them.

I do have a friend who had constant elevated liver enzymes and it is likely due to the infections. But in your case it does sound like might more likely be a response to some of the abx you are on? I've had to take breaks, a few times when my liver enzymes went up but stabilized after the break. I think taking a break is the wise decision, better to play the long game, play it safe. You'll get there.

I presume you are doing liver detox?

Thanks seb. I have heard good things about the Byron white formulas. Will ask my LLMD on tues. What kind of liver detox do you do? I do liposomal and intranasal glutathione, NAC, milk thistle extract.

I also have many liver gene issues, enough I wad advised to never consume any alcohol for the rest of my life.

That said, after a 6 week abx break, my liver enzymes when to 40's and 30's soon after. Now two years after and clean eating im in the low 20's- even with bad liver genes.

My liver detox page on gene deciphering/decoding is 50% red (bad); If I can recover, so can you smile

Are there any common supplement suggested amounts for elevated liver enzyme due to lyme detox for milk thistle and glutathione? There are recommended daily allowance suggestions on the bottle but those amounts don't always seem to be accurate for acute illness. Thanks.
