Do binders give you detoxreactions at start?

I didn’t have any reaction - but it’s best to start low - one capsule - and make sure you drink LOTS of water with it.

Make sure you take it away from any meds, supplements (by a couple hours) as it will flush them out of your system.

Charcoal didn’t hurt me. Haven’t done any clays. Modified citrus pectin - had to work my way up starting at around 500mg. Normally take 5g a day as single dose now. Have taken 5g 2x day at certain periods and may have had detox reactions somewhat but can’t remember. Cholestyramine caused intolerable reactions. Latest thing I have tried is chlorophyllin. Don’t think I have any detox reactions but I am in a bad flare right now and not positive why.

A lot of mold symptoms increased for me. I was exhausted and moody. Getting out the mycotoxins also apparently helped my liver besuse i had some greem stool from bile being released. Getting my liver going caused some other detox symptoms too i think. I took tikesumi supreme bamboo charcoal but had to stop cause it was too much for right now

I did not react with charcoal, chlorella or cholestyramine with the exception of the last causing constipation. Charcoal can do that too.

Hey MariaS74, Congratulations on finding a super-good remedy (binders) to the detoxing from lyme and co-infections. I didn't find out about Cholestyramine as an eliminator of mycotoxins and Activated Charcoal as a helpful detox until later in my lyme research.

Here's my experience: When I first took (a 3 gram scoop) of Cholestyramine I had a heavy herx-like reaction from what I can remember: think: lots of sleep, aching, joint pain, mostly became bedridden, about 10-18 hours. When I finally got up, and after I had had my elimination (bowel movement tmi sry), wow... I definitely felt a difference in energy, clarity of thought. I remember feeling at least 60-70% of my old self again, if not at least felt dramatically better than I had in months or possibly years.

The charcoal I found less powerful but seems to work in a similar way.

Yes remember lots of water, drink plenty and eat more fiber to get things going if you need to.

I'm getting to be a pro at this, so since I've been eating relatively poorly lately, I took 2 charcoal capsules and 3 grams of cholestyramine last night, mixed into a cold glass of water about 4 hours ago, about 2 hours after eating, and it isn't nearly as bad as before, but... now that I think of it, I get a few neuro symptoms like memory problems, can't remember everything I did today, some brain fog, and pains in the soles of my feet (that could be from standing all day long re-organizing and cleaning my place or also Bartonella possibly)...and oh yeah insomnia, I pretty much didn't sleep last night.

Last thought: I would venture a guess that I have the common (40% of people have it according to one source) MTHFR mutation that doesn't methylate something something organic chemistry in my lower intestine. So, I vaguely recall reading something about Cholestyramine being a key to removing the build-up of toxins that would otherwise keep re-circulating into my system via bile ducts and so forth.

Just try it. Drink lots of water. Take one capsule of charcoal, or half dose or smaller 1,2 grams of the Cholestyramine if you need to. I would say it's worth the "discomfort" and you may see a significant result...such as brain fog clearing, energy, etc...

Thank you for all of your responses and info. Sooo glad to find support again. My Mom died suddenly recently and all my illnesses have flared like crazy! Been living in my bed for 8 months now, worst experience since first diagnosed 26 yrs ago. I have had to stop working (obviously) as my Mom was always my 'back up' with flares (besides moral support, by helping me cook nutritious meals to speed up my healing process) 😞 I'm dealing with multiple chronic illnesses that I will now have to handle on my own. Living with my father trying to keep an eye on him too... My body is sensitive to meds so I'll start slow and try taking the charcoal I have in the late pm as you suggested Girlie. That's when I take my Doxy so I think I'm going to have to keep a written schedule at this point!

Thank you. My father fell and broke his hip approx 6 months after Mom passed. Healthy people don't understand the depths of these illnesses and how they can affect your entire life.

To answer your question, yes I have Myco, Chronic Candida, Fibromyalgia, Chronic pain including Osteo issues, Complex PTSD, IBD- leaky gut, and currently being tested for possible RA /Lupus. Left some off, lol.

Well I haven't thought of it that way nor been told so, but I haven't researched my illnesses in quite a while and they have been diagnosed separately.
HOWEVER.. if that's the case, you have really just
given me a very relieving way to view my health for the first time in a long time! 😊 I knew some of the illnesses were related, but do you know this to be true?? (I've been an athlete since 3rd grade and to think I may be able to even just fast walk again is hope I really needed today)

I'm awaiting the test results for the RA or Lupus, and current lyme results. Have an LLMD appt this month. Updated testing for all strains as it was thought I had a false negative in the past.

This long list of "different illnesses" has never made sense to me either. I was hospitalized with viral meningitis as a child as well as systemic staph ('70s) so some have said it could have contributed to my current health issues.
